Yarmouth Sunday League (Cliff Hotel)
The last of this season’s cup finals took place at Emerald Park. The Division One League Cup final saw Windmill, who won the league title undefeated, and the KO Plate, meet El Sol, runners-up in the league.
A cracking final didn’t disappoint, with both sides creating chances, but no end product, until a mistake in the Windmill defence enabled El Sol to convert a penalty, to go in 1-0 up at half time.
There was no let-up in the second half as the game ebbed and flowed. Twenty minutes in El Sol made it 2-0. Windmill were now up against it and scored with 10 minutes to go, but couldn’t find the equaliser. Congratulations to El Sol, including Jeff Rowland, Brian Cockrill, and Mike Houghton and also to Adam Thompson and Clint Bilyard, whose Windmill side contributed to a superb cup final.
The league season has now come to a close, and I would like to take this opportunity in thanking all secretaries, not just over this season, but also over the number of seasons I’ve been fixture secretary, who have helped me along the way and made the job easier – Glyn Gray.
