BOHEMIANS GIRLS U14 have returned from Spain where they took part in the internationally acclaimed Donosti Cup which attracted 258 teams from around the world including squads from Africa, North and South America, Asia and from throughout Europe.

They embraced the spirit of the tournament in such a way that they were awarded the UNICEF Fair Play Trophy which was presented by a delegation from UNICEF in the Anoeta Stadium, home of Real Sociedad. This was the first time in 18 years that an English team had been recognised with this award.

Bohs started their group games with a tough match against Elko Soccer Club from Nevada, USA. Libby scored the winner, firing home from an acute angle.

Next day Bohs faced a strong Spanish team from Oiartzun and were superb with a scintillating display to win 4-0 with two goals from Libby, a great individual strike from Chelsea and an unstoppable shot from Megan.

Then came local team Tekno and again the girls were in great form with two more goals for Libby and two more for Chelsea.

The final group game against Intxaurdi who had reached the semi-finals the previous year, saw another 4-0 victory this time with goals for Mary Anne, Charlotte Eaton, Libby and Charlotte Eastwood - a typical searing long-range effort.

The semi-final was played on the same day and a combination of six games in five days and searing heat saw Bohs turn in their only mediocre performance of the week and they went out slightly disappointingly 1-0 and missed out on the opportunity of playing the Belgium national team in the final in the Anoeta Stadium.

The whole week was an amazing journey and packed with enormous fun.

The event was such a success Bohs hope to repeat the tour in 2010 and re-unite with friends from Italy, Greece, Belgium, Spain and USA.

Thanks went to wonderfully generous sponsors May Gurney, Edeco, Burgh House, Julies Car Boot, Duval Building and Beach Radio.
