Kirkley and Belton showed what they are capable of on Saturday when they beat Norfolk League Division One high-flyers Sandringham by 34 runs.

The home side, who started the day in second position, must have fancied their chances when they restricted their visitors to 140-9 in ther 45 overs.

But Kirkley and Belton’s bowlers then turned on the style to dismiss them for just 109 to clinch a notable success.

Abdul Rehman’s 42 was the only score of note as Kirkley’s batsman struggled against an impressive attack.

But the tables were then turned, with Chris Lambert taking 4-14, Rehman 3-25 and Sajid Ali 2-23, with the end coming in the 41st over.

Kirkley and Belton are at home to leaders Castle Rising tomorrow.

After last week’s debacle of a fielding effort Kirkley and Belton A, sponsored by Alan Boswell Insurance Services, bounced back with a crushing 166 run win over Acle B.

Skipper Daniels lost the toss and was asked to bat. When Steve Crispin fell early it seemed a good toss to win but Harvey Hebditch and Boby Thomas played two great innings, Hebditch hitting all parts of the ground with some great shots and Thomas ably supporting him with quick runs.

Thomas finally fell on 52 but Hebditch carried on supported by Klayton Tyrell (27) and Richard Daniels (18). He fell eight short of what would have been a maiden century for Kirkley with a brilliant 92.

The target for Acle was 239. It has been said that Kirkley A have bowled well most of the season but Neil Muirhead’s spell of 7-5-4-1 was simply the best of the camapaign, at times unplayable, David Read again bowled well, taking 3-21.

Paul Hodds and Kevin Comer came on and although Acle bludgeoned a few to the boundary both these bowlers took valuable wickets.

Hodds took what looked a very lucky caught and bowled and after previous weeks of dropped catches most were amazed he held onto this one.

Daniels also took two good catches and the whole effort in the field was outstanding. Even Matty Gander who couldn’t bowl with two broken toes kept very well behind the stumps. Acle were finally all out for 72.

Alan Boswell men of the match were Harvey Hebditch and Neil Muirhead.
