The first winter pairs of the new year took place on a surprisingly balmy day with hardly any breeze.

The professionals’ prize was won by Mike Few, a triumphant return to his amateur stamping ground, with a score of even par 70, followed on 76 by Danny Chapman, quite a surprise when the greens, once again were in tip-top condition.

The pro/am event was won by Gary Stangoe and Kevin Pratt from Costessey with a score of 40pts.

In the main am/am tournament, the winning pair was the home combination of Graham Carman and Josh Brooks with 44pts. Runners- up, from Caister, on countback were Cain Esherwood and lady partner Dawn Futter with 42pts. Third went to the previous month’s winners, Mike Devlin and Steve Greatrix (Caister) on 42pts, 4th went to Matthew Bacon and Aaron Bullock from Costessey with 41pts. They deserve special mention as they play off scratch and plus one, a great effort. Fifth went to the county senior squad combination of Terry Norman from Caister and Tony Lount from Sheringham with 39pts.

n The next event on February 1 already has over 50 entries but more are welcome (tel Gary Potter on 01493 720421).
