Gorleston 0, Felixstowe 2

This last home match of the season was one of the best contested and most skilful games played on the new Cliff Park Community pitch.

That the victory was by the narrow margin of two goals to the Division 3NE league champions Felixstowe (now promoted back to Division Two) goes to show how well Gorleston performed.

The 16-man squad can be proud of their achievements this season which should see them finish in fifth place - provided they beat Harleston Magpies IV X1 in their final game at Weybread.

Push-back is at 4pm and transport will leave the Albion PH at 2.30pm.

Gorleston welcomed back James Clarkson and Russ Crawford up front with ex-club player Ollie Barfield and Will Gatley on the bench.

The game maintained a cracking pace with frequent attacks and counter-attacks. Felixstowe's star was their captain Jack Entwistle.

Andrew Lilly, Nick Mobbs, Mark Vaudin and Jamie Higginbotham marked their men closely and with skipper Kevin MacDonald, Martyn Vaudin and Monty Raymond breaking forward frequently to support the lively Michael Tadross and Russ Crawford up front a major upset looked on the cards.

But on 29 minutes following the breakdown of a Gorleston attack down the left which left Monty Raymond appealing for a free-hit, Felixstowe swept into the Gorleston D and when the ball hit a defender's boot Jack Entwistle stole in at the far post to deflect the resulting short corner past Barney King in goal.

It took a touch of real class eight minutes into the second half to seal the game. On the Gorleston 25 and seemingly well marked by two defenders, Felixstowe's inside left Alex Woodhouse spun on the spot to elude both of them and centre for Entwistle to magic the ball into the net.

Gorleston continued to give as good as they got and with subs coming on there were encouraging signs that both Ollie Barfield and Will Gatley will have a valuable future in the team next season.
