Rollesby Bowls Club

This week was Rollesby at their inconsistent best.

Starting at Woodbastwick in the Broadland League, they lost on all four rinks for no points. Score: 62-91, points 0-7.

Rollesby fared much better when away to Horning, again in the Broadland League, with a complete reversal of the previous evening. Rollesby won well on all rinks to take all seven points. Score: 89-60.

T Bolton, T Wright, M Thomas 20-11, E Taylor, C Johnson, G Curtis 21-17, J Palmer, T Wilkin, T Avery 23-13, J Avery, J Seeranj, T Coots 25-19. Overall score: 89-60, points 7-0.

Away to Burlingham in a rain-soaked and shortened match, Rollesby put up a good show but again failed to take the bulk of the points.

A good 19-10 win by J Avery, F Walker and T Wright together with narrow defeats of 15-18 and 12-14 were not enough to balance the 7-22 defeat on the remaining rink. Overall score: 53-64, points 1-6.

The week finished on a better note. Away to Blofield Heath in the Broadland League, despite defeats on two rinks and a narrow 21-20 victory by T Wright, C Johnson, G Curtis, Rollesby won the night with a super show of lead bowling by T Bolton assisted by E Taylor, T Avery 29-13, to give a 79-69 win, points 5-2.

The week concluded with a visit to Plantation Park in the Three Wood County League where the visitors enjoyed a rare victory.

Wins by J Temple, R Blunden, B Temple 18-11 and A Christie, T Wilkin, J Catchpole 20-16 saw the visitors to a 7-2 win, overall score 50-43.

Rollesby Bowls Club are holding a three wood pairs open tournament on Sunday. Entrance fee is �2 per person with cash prizes, refreshments available.

Bradwell Bowling Club

Bradwell men’s Malta Cup A team continued their campaign for the top of the table with a 6-1 points victory at Martham with Terry Gallant, Ted Connellan and John Sergent the best rink on 28-7.

The B team at home against Ormesby also had a share of the points 71-60 with Alan Harrison, Allan Collins and John Watson 27-10.

In the Ladies’ Malta Cup, Bradwell travelled to Acle and despite three very close games the home side won overall.

The rink of Brenda Hubbard, Joan Bayfield and Dahlia MacDonald produced the only win 17-16.

The Ladies’ Webb Cup was also contested this week and played on a home and away basis.

Bradewell were pipped by Connaught with their home side winning by 10 shots, the overall score 45-36.

In the County Federation League, both Red and Green teams played at home.

The Reds were against Bacton and won 7-2 with Roy Turner, Ken Hall and Colin Deverill on 27-13.

The Green team, up against a strong Freethorpe side, won closely on all three rinks to achieve a 9-0 win with Dianne Purnell, Jean Moore and Dahlia MacDonald on 23-20.

In the Men’s County EBA Fours, Bradwell A, despite three very close results, had a clean sweep at home against Caister with a 5-0 victory, Eric Brooks, Jim Malcolm, Eddie MacDonald and Dennis Pratt on 23-20.

The B team travelled to St Marks (Norwich) and were treated to a fine display of bowling by the opposition.

Despite Bradwell’s best efforts the home team won comfortably 92-35, George Coxsey, Brian Pilgrim, Allan Collins and Paul Vincent the best on 18-23.

Only one match in the Lothingland League this week saw Bradwell defeated at Gorleston Conservatives Club 40-117 with Peter King, Phil Fiske and Thelma Bradnum on 11-26.

The afternoon Sunshine League at home to Wrentham produced a fine win 59-44 for Bradwell with Tom Hall, Frank Hatton and Mick Marshall 25-7.

Martham Bowls Club

Martham A had two cup games.

In the Watering Bowl, they beat Runham 89-59, top block J Marshall, T Watson and J Hudson 30-14.

In the County Cup, Martham A were at home to Cawston and won 80-78. Top block S Watson, G Bowgen and J Watson 30-14.

Martham Ladies had two games this week. At home to Caister they won on two rinks as Martham won the game 64-43 (5-1). Top block Sandra Faircloth, Sue Moore and Edna Land 26-9.

On Friday the ladies were at Hickling and won 65-48 (5-1). Top block was Jessica Ward, Jane Watson and Pat Dickinson 12-27.

On Thursday, Martham Ladies played in the Webb Cup against Aldiss Park and won both home and away to win the game. They were due to be playing Hunstanton yesterday.

In the Norfolk County League, Martham B were away to Hickling. After a close game Martham won 42-39 (7-2).

Top block was Jane Rush, Bing Smith and Debra Nicholson 10-17.

On Sunday afternoon the George Lown and John Lown Trophies were played for. Twenty players had a very enjoyable but windy afternoon.

Jeff Watson won the George Lown Trophy with three wins and Pat Dickinson won the John Lown Trophy with three wins.

Caister Bowls Club

Results for week commencing June 6. EBA – Hansell League: Caister playing at Bradwell A lost 0-5. Malta Cup: Caister Ladies at home to Great Yarmouth Britannia won 67- 39 (6-0).

Federation – County League: All the three teams lost. Caister A at home to Hickling A 45-71 (2-7). Caister Castaways home to Filby B 41-59 (2-7). Caister Castaways away to Winterton 43-63 (0-9).

Yarmouth and District League: Caister B played Ormesby Greens at Ormesby, winning 80-70 (5-2). Caister Ladies away to Martham Ladies lost 43-64 (1-5).

Cup Matches – In the Watering Bowl Round Two, Caister A played Halvergate at Burlingham won 82-63.

In the preliminary round of the County Cup, Caister B won at North Walsham New Road 80-70.

Ormesby Bowls Club

On Tuesday, June 7, Ormesby three-wood Federation Red team played Filby A at home and won (5-4) 48-46.

The rink of N Cheevers, S Stamp and A Stamp played well to win 20-13.

On the same evening, Ormesby Federation Blue team played at Hemsby and lost (7-2) 46-41

Ormesby’s winning block of M Sullivan, C Brooker and D Humphries won 16-13.

On Wednesday afternoon Ormesby Ladies’ Malta Cup team entertained Britannia on a pleasant sunny afternoon but lost (0-6) 43-66.

On the same evening Ormesby EBA team were successful against Freethorpe B at home, winning (4-1) 60-54.

Ormesby winning blocks were: J Jenkins, R Pope, K Dongray and F Brumby 22-17 and D Picot, J Bratton, B Horne and J Chegwidden 21-19.

On Friday, in the Yarmouth League, Ormesby were at home to Caister, but despite winning well on two rinks went down (2-5) 70-80.

Ormesby winning rinks were: S Stamp, S McCullough and A Stamp 22-15 and M Picot, D Picot and M Hart 21-15.

On Monday, Ormesby played away to Martham B in the Men’s Malta Cup. The result was a good win for Ormesby (6-1) 74-48.

Best winning blocks were B Horne, K Hunt and F Brumby 24-4 followed by R Myers, J Chegwidden and D Humphries 17-11 and N Cheevers, K Scott-Greenard and C Brooker 19-15.
