ENTERTAINING Salhouse Bell in the return leg of the Broadland Rotary Shield, Rollesby enjoyed another extremely tight game.

Two winning blocks and a draw, together with the three-point advantage from the away leg, saw the home team through to the next round with a narrow four-shot victory on the night 74-70, aggregate seven shots.

Away to Caister A at Potter Heigham in the Lacon Cup, Rollesby lost by a single shot.

Trailing by three shots at the halfway stage, but leading by three shots at 15 ends, Rollesby fell away to lose by the cruelest margin. Overall score: 71-72.

Close games seemed to be the fashion last week for Rollesby, as proved with the visit of Potter Heigham in the Yarmouth League.

Draws on two rinks and a win were not quite enough to bring home the points. Overall score: 68-70 (2-5).

Rollesby played Salhouse Bell again at home, this time in the Broadland Knock-out Cup with the visitors playing with one member short.

However, the home team won on all four rinks to enjoy a convincing 113-56 win and progress to the next round.

The week concluded with a home match in the three-wood County League against South Walsham Swans where the visitors took the spoils. A close game but with defeats on all rinks 11-21, 11-15 and 12-15, the overall score was 34-51, points 0-9.

Ormesby Bowls Club

On Sunday Ormesby played host to Waveney BC in a friendly match played in a spirit of goodwill and friendship.

The games were closely fought and Waveney won by 115 shots to 109. However, Ormesby won four out of seven rinks. Their winning players were F Pope, E Getliff and R Pope 22-11, V Hubbard, A Stamp and S Stamp 21-12, B Horne, K Scott-Greenard and D Horne 13-10 and D Palmer, S McCullough and M Hart 18-17.

The return match will be at Waveney on Sunday, July 17.

On Tuesday, Ormesby three-wood Federation Blue team played Caister at home.

Although they lost (2-7) 46-53, the winning rink of F Pope, M Hunt and P Evans played well to win 20-19.

On the same evening Ormesby Federation Red played Caister away.

Again, although Caister won (5-4) 55-49 Ormesby’s winning block of I Carter, K Scott-Greenard and K Dongray had a good win of 32-7.

On Wednesday, June 1, Ormesby played at Freethorpe in the Ladies’ Malta Cupand went down (0-6) 35-74.

The same evening Ormesby Men’s EBA team played away against Yarmouth and under somewhat cool conditions could only manage one point to lose (4-1) 75-52.

The winning block was D Picot, R Pope, D Humphries and K Dongray 20-18.

On Thursday, Ormesby were again away to Yarmouth, in the Yarmouth League.

Although Ormesby winning block, M Hunt, K Scott-Greenard and B Horne won 22-16 the overall score in Yarmouth’s favour was (6-1) 68-64.

On Friday, again in the Yarmouth League, Ormesby were away to Martham and again, despite a convincing win on one rink, went down (6-1) 85-77. Ormesby winning rink was S McCullough, I Carter and P Evans 24-13.

On Monday, Ormesby visited Bradwell B in the Men’s Malta Cup.

In a close game Ormesby had two winning blocks. D Picot, B Horne and K Dongray won 20-14 and M Hart, R Pope and J Chegwidden won 16-12. Bradwell won (5-2) 71-60.

Martham Bowls Club

In the Yarmouth League, Martham A were away at Runham and lost 78-64 (6-1).

In the Lacon Cup, Martham A played Martham B and won 90-65. Top block was T Punchard, G Harrison and J Dyball.

Martham B had a win against Hickling in the Yarmouth League. The score was 83-73 with the top block of M Gallant, S Moore and J Watson 39-6.

On Friday the B team were at Ormesby. With three blocks winning, Martham won the game 77-85 (1-6), top block E Payne A Jones and J Watson 17-31.

On Monday, Martham Ladies were at Acle in the County Cup. In a very close game Martham lost by one shot 53-52. Top block was Pam Symes, Jane Watson and Pat Dickinson 14-21.

In the Norfolk County League, Martham B were away to Acle.

Winning on only one rink, Martham B lost 58-55 (7-2), their winning rink Fred Brighton, Jane Watson and Eric Faircloth 13-22.

Caister Bowls Club

Results for week commencing May 31 – EBA, Hansell League: Caister playing at home against Norwich Union won 77-60 (4-1).

Malta Cup: Caister Ladies at home to Martham Ladies won 63-51 (5-1).

Federation, County League: Caister A at Dilham Cross Keys lost 41-72 (2-7). Caister Castaways away to Ormesby Blues won 53-46 (7-2). Caister Centurions at home to Ormesby Reds lost 49-55 (4-5).

Yarmouth and District: Caister B at home to Winterton lost 68-78 (2-5). Caister Ladies at home to Hickling won 64-40 (5-1).

Cup matches: Caister A playing Rollesby at Potter Heigham in the second round of the Lacon Cup had a very close match, winning 72-71.

Caister played Great Yarmouth in the EBA Bales Cup at home, winning 44-42.
