Focus on youth football

BOHEMIANS U13 GIRLS played Swanton Herons away and came away 4-0 winners, with goals from Hannah, Bethany, Courtney and a Swanton own goal, with Molly outstanding in goal and commanding her steadfast and robust defence of Georgia, Tomo and Michelle. Swanton's chances on goal were kept to a minimum with the midfield working well as a unit, attacking and defending together, and it gave the Bohs' forwards plenty of chances. The excellent wing play of Tink and Rhea gave Swanton defence problems the whole game. Bohs were unlucky not to score more, with Poppy working hard up front and pulling Swanton's defence out of position. The central midfield of Megan and Courtney put in a lot of hard work. PoM: Tink. BOHEMIANS U11 GIRLS entertained Norwich City at New Road. Norwich came to play for the draw, packing their defence. Bohs attacked, looking sharp with Briarnie poking the ball home for the opener. Ella found herself open in the area and slammed the ball into the roof of the net. In the second half Norwich attacked, pulling a goal back. Bohs were shaken as the physical size of their opponents caused problems. Millie burst through, coolly prodding the ball past the City keeper before an unstoppable shot from the Norwich attack made it 3-2. Millie ran through four players to make the score 4-2. Antonia and Ella ran themselves into the ground. Rhianna, Jordan, Georgia and Indianna were solid in defence. Olivia pulled off a couple of good saves to maintain Bohs' 100 per cent record. Briarnie played her best game of the season, providing some probing passes. Players of the match were Ella and Antonia.

BOHEMIANS YOUTH U13A for the first time played in the Norfolk County Minor Cup, playing up a year, some of the Swaffham players six footers. The pace and strength of the Swaffham players was causing the Bohs defence problems but they all adapted very well and were collectively excellent, and with 10 minutes on the clock Bohs opened the scoring. Good work down the left side from Dan R and his cross found Mitch for a tap in at the back post. Robbie, Josh and Mitch were

linking well, Aston was bossing the midfield, Dan H was utilising his pace and direct style down the right wing. The younger Bohs eventually succumbed to the direct play from Swaffham for an equaliser. Bohs stopped as they thought the ball was out, but play carried on and the cross came in and was met sweetly for 2-1. In the second half Bohs were put under a lot of pressure and Kingsley was alert to high balls. Ainsley and Sam slotted in continuing the good work and Noel's extra muscle helped in midfield. Bohs got their reward for sticking to the task, when Aston's pass found Dan R outpacing the defenders, beating the keeper to the ball to coolly slide it into the net. Bohs had to settle for extra time. This is where all the boys showed great character, Dan was clinical to make it 3-2. The referee sent off a Swaffham player and Mitch put the game out of Swaffham's reach after more good football. Swaffham had won the South Norfolk League at their own age group for the last couple of seasons, so huge credit must go to all the boys for a great all-round display to move into the third round against Diss or Hungate Rovers. CAISTER U12 were away to Hemsby. Caister had everyone available and were confident of getting a result. Caister played their passing game and had early chances with Bradley Baker unlocking Hemsby's defence. Miles and Keiran worked together well and had good periods of the game down the right side, as well as George and Tyler on the left. Just before the break Kieran hit a long looping shot which put Caister deservedly one up. The second half saw Kane back in goal and Bradley Rowand in midfield. Hemsby had good spells early in the second half and testing Kane several times. Caister's back four worked well and not much got through them with Rossi and Will at full-backs and Daniel and Bradley Stark in the centre looked a tight unit. Bradley Stark and Daniel had the opportunity for good runs with the other covering their position. Caister finished 2-0 winners with Bradley Stark converting a penalty in the last 10 minutes. CAISTER U9B travelled to play first division Gorleston Rangers A in the League Cup first round and showed their improvement by holding their first division opponents and only losing by a goal, scored two minutes from time to make the final score 3-2. In a tight, even first half, one goal by Gorleston was enough to give them a deserved lead. Tactical changes saw Alex Q level the scores and with Will (man of the match) working non-stop all over the pitch and Ozzy solid at the back, Caister forced the pace only to be caught out by a second home goal. Caister never gave up and with his trademark free-kick Alex Quinton levelled the scores at 2-2.

Both sides went tooth and nail to force a winner and with two minutes left, a ball over the top of the defence was finished well by the Gorleston striker. Final score: Gorleston Rangers U9A 3, Caister U9B 2. This was a great performance against a first division team by all the players who now can believe that with continued hard work in training anything is possible. GORLESTON RANGERS D team played their friendly rivals Gorleston Rangers B on Sunday with a reduced squad due to illness. Callum and Lewis in defence were solid, making some fantastic clearances, causing the B team problems. Matty had a hard job on the right in the first half but battled well. Jack C covered nearly every blade of grass, putting in some tackles and making it very difficult for the opposition to keep possession. Michael made some great saves throughout and at the other end captain Josh S and Pedro were doing their best to get in some great positions. Dan made some great passes and lovely through balls which both Jack C and Josh S got on the end of but at half time the score was 0-0. In the second half Michael made a fantastic save, coming out of goal and covering the ball well. Dan made a good pass to Josh S who tried to shoot but was blocked, Jack C picked up the loose ball and had his shot go just wide. Pedro's work rate was his best so far this season. Matty came on and worked hard in the second half with a half-chance to score. Both Callum and Lewis were heading the ball to safety many times to protect Michael in goal. The B team scored twice in the dying minutes making the final score 2-0. GORLESTON RANGERS GIRLS U11 played a friendly against the new U10 Rangers Girls. The U11s, under the new management of Adam, started the brighter with Hannah C in goal, Beth, Hannah S and Mary in defence, Jess and Aimee midfield and Neve up front. U11 experience showed from the kick off knocking the ball around well and making the U10s work hard and chase the ball. Aimee and Neve combined well, Jess was a superb support player and by half-time U11s were 5-0 up. Second half saw Aimee swap with Hannah C and again some great build-up play led to more goals. Hannah S and Beth supporting from the back piled the pressure on the U10s and the final score was 8-0. The U10s they gave a good account of themselves for their first game. U11s are looking to recruit one or two more girls in school Year 6. Training takes place at Lynn Grove Tuesdays, 5.30pm. U11s match this week away to Horsford, kick-off 10.30am.

GORLESTON RANGERS U10A played at Lynn Grove against Rangers C on Sunday. Both teams were playing great football. The game was played at a fast pace with some neat passing all over the pitch. The A team were soon just taking more control of the game and were rewarded with Harrison scoring the first goal. Both teams were still playing at full pace but Harrison scored his second of the game. Throughout the entire game, both teams played football at its best and Harrison scored two more to make the final score 4-0 to the a team. Credit goes to both teams for a great entertaining game. The team of TJ, Jayden, Harrison C, Markus, Hazza, Callum, Harrison T, Alex and Tyler L, played like they know they can. Thanks to ref Mark as always doing a great and fair job. GORLESTON RANGERS U10B entertained the U10Ds. The Bs created several opportunities through Joel and Alex, which went close. However, the Ds got into their stride and kept Shaun on his toes in goal. The Bs kept up the pressure with corners by Aaron, who delivered some perfect crosses which could have easily been converted by Ben, Henry, Sam or Alex. The creative Henry and Ben, backed by some long-range goal kicking from Shaun, were always a threat on the Ds' goal. The second half started with the Bs being led from the defence by Aaron and Lewis. A pass from Lewis to Aaron found Sam in space on the left, who fired the ball across the Ds' keeper to score. The Ds responded, but James P-R in goal stood firm, with support from Aaron, who cleared everything that came his way. The Bs produced a break near the end which produced a free-kick, which Aaron fired across to the far post for Lewis to pop up and score, making it 2-0 to the Bs. GORLESTON RANGERS U10C again came up against their A team. The C team started brightly and the midfield trio of Jack, Jonny and Max were soon in control, however they were unable to turn this slight advantage into goals and they found themselves on the back foot for large periods of the first half. Luckily for the C team, Bradley and Daniel were in fine form, blocking almost everything thrown at them. Kaine again showed his ability with some fine saves. Shortly before half-time, Kaine was finally beaten by a fine strike. The C team conceded a second just before half-time following a mix-up in the area. The C team started the second half strongly pushing forward in search of a goal, however the opposing defence held out, blocking everything they threw at them. With all the C team giving 100 per cent, holes began to appear as they tired and despite valiant efforts by the defence and Kaine, they conceded two more in the second half. GORLESTON FC U10, playing Yarmouth U10, started without their usual confidence and soon found themselves behind. All the boys then grew in stature and responded by holding the score at 1-0 at half-time. The second half saw a vast improvement in their performance and dominated the rest of the match, scoring a disallowed 'goal' that would have been a true reflection of the game. Well done to all the boys for a great display. MoM Joseph for his first-half performance.

GORLESTON FC U7B played at home to Waveney B. Following a week off, both sides entered into the game with spirit and determination, leading to an exciting game for the supporters to watch. It was a very close match, with Gorleston creating a lot of opportunities and showing some good attacking skills. Gorleston had greater possession of the ball during the second half and the whole team fought hard right up to the final whistle. Thanks to all involved.

GORLESTON FC U7 were away to Hemsby Hornets A. The game started brightly with both teams playing some fantastic football. All players played with determination and enthusiasm throughout the match. GFC played with passion, creating space to pass the ball round the pitch. The match was well supported by both sets of spectators. On behalf of Gorleston FC manager, players and parents we would like to say a big thank you to the Hemsby Hornets ref for controlling an enjoyable game.

HEMSBY HORNETS U10B visited a very good Loddon side and came away with a 1-1 draw which was a very fair result. Loddon scored within the first minute. For the first 10 minutes Hemsby didn't have any shape, they couldn't pass which meant nothing was created. The Hornets then upped their tempo and the game was level pegging. Hemsby started to get the ball wide, win the tackles and pass the ball. The goal which was scored from all this was superb and Jack finished the move with a quality finish. The Hornets continued to make chances but couldn't find the back of the Loddon net. Special mention to Cain and Connor who produced fine displays in defence which earned Cain man of the match. Luke produced some brilliant late saves to give Hemsby a draw. Harlen, Regan, Louis and Jacob never stopped working in midfield and Jack held the ball superbly waiting for the support from the midfield. Training Saturday morning as usual. HEMSBY HORNETS U7B played at home against a good passing Waveney A side. The first 10 minutes were fairly even with both teams battling well. Hemsby then switched off and never got back into the game. Hemsby must get back to basics and start passing the ball and working for each other again. Players also need to start listening and remembering their positions. Well played to Aaron in goal who made some superb saves throughout the match. Both teams observed the minute's silence with respect. Next match away at Kirkley & Pakefield B (Walmer Road), kick-off 11.30am.

BOHEMIANS GIRLS U15 were at home to Scole and welcomed back Chelsea and she showed what Bohs had been missing as she opened the scoring with one of her trademark shots. Several well-taken corners from Sasha went begging before Libby converted with an effort which went in off her thigh. In the second half it was no surprise to see Scole reduce the arrears. Again Libby and Chelsea put the game safe with two well-finished goals. Libby then went close with the move of the game which saw Natalie put a great cross in and Libby climbed superbly well but saw her headed effort just go over the bar. Star of the show was Sasha and special mentions go to Marcie who gives 100 per cent every week, Sophie who displays great tenacity and Ellen who is improving with every match. BOHEMIANS GIRLS U15, away to Waveney, fielded an entire team of girls playing up a year and the whole team played their part in a superb performance. Laura opened the scoring, Charlotte quickly added a second and Laura with a sweet left-footed finish added a third before Waveney hit back. Second half saw Laura and Natalie link well and Natalie's surging runs down the wing were causing havoc and created chances which were well finished by Sophie, Laura and Charlotte. Paige, after a fine through-ball, got in on the scoring and the last goal went to Marcie who gave an outstanding display of defending and supporting play. Kirsty broke the play up well when Waveney threatened, Ellie held the play up well and Hollie made a couple of fine saves. Player-of-the-match: Natalie who could easily have scored a hat-trick. Next match: Sunday, November 15, U14 home to Swanton Herons, meet Cliff Park High School 9.45am latest when we will be presented by Norfolk FA with the Fair Play Award for the 2009/09 season and a cheque for �200. A great achievement and well done to Fiona and her girls.

SWINDELL GIRLS U17 suffered their heaviest defeat, 6-0, for quite some time at home to a very strong Hethersett Girls U17 outfit. Swindell hit the woodwork on two occasions, Mags the bar and Smudge a post. Megan made some stunning stops, two super ones pushed over the bar. The first goal was very cruel for Meg, as the ball squirmed under her body. As for the second, she got her fingertips to the ball, but it dribbled in. Bet shot just over, Porsha had a couple of near misses as Swindell played some neat football. But again finishing let them down. In the second half Swindell had a couple of goal opportunities, Mags and Smudge narrowly wide. Hethersett's six flattered them somewhat. Everyone in a white shirt worked tirelessly right up to the final whistle. GREAT YARMOUTH TOWN U10, hosted a strong Halesworth Town in torrential rain on Sunday and progressed through to the second round with a good controlled display. The Young Bloaters were at full strength with Josh Swanston in goal, Alex Sawyer and Kyle Haylock at the back, midfield of Callum Aizlewood, Archie Wallis, Jordan Rodwell, Bobby Jex, Thomas Sims and Owen Wright and with Thomas Hunter up front. The Young Bloaters in the awful conditions played some lovely football. They took an early lead when Hunter's corner was headed in by Thomas Sims and soon doubled their lead when Archie Wallis struck directly from a corner. The young Bloaters at this stage were playing some great football. Hunter then scored the first of his hat-trick with a venomous strike from some way out into the roof of the net and soon after Hunter got Yarmouth's fourth and his second. The second half was much the same with all players playing their part, Aizlewood made it five midway through the half and Hunter completed his hat-trick close to the end. Yarmouth season is now moving up a gear with some good consistent displays. MoM whole team great performance in atrocious conditions.

GREAT YARMOUTH TOWN U10 played host to newly-promoted Gorleston FC B. The Bloaters were near full strength with the only absentee being Archie Wallis. The Young Bloaters lined up with Josh Swanston, Alex Sawyer, Kyle Haylock, Callum Aizlewood, Bobby Jex, Jordan Rodwell, Thomas Hunter, Thomas Sims and Owen Wright. Yarmouth dominated the game for a large part of the match but could only manage to find the net once through a Rodwell pass which Hunter turned on and fired home under the keeper. Yarmouth should have and could have scored more but were denied by a defensive Gorleston side and unfamiliar hesitant finishing. This wasn't one of the young Bloaters' best performances which was expected, from there form in previous weeks. However, well done all boys for sticking to the task and never giving up. CAISTER JUNIOR SCHOOL finished runners-up in the U11 East Norfolk seven-a side football tournament on Saturday. After winning four and drawing one of their games in the league, they reached the final against Woodlands Primary School. After a close game, the teams had to be separated by a penalty shoot-out. Woodlands scored all of their spot kicks to win the tournament and progress to the Norfolk competition. Mr Stratton, Caister Junior School's manager stated: “The boys worked very hard as a team and I was proud of their efforts to finish as runners-up. Good luck to Woodlands Primary School in the next round of the competition.”

COBHOLM BOYS U12 played away to Shrublands. Cobholm put Shrublands under pressure and created a number of chances. Cobholm put some nice corners through from Dale with Hadley unlucky with the header. Shrublands' goalie had plenty of work to do, and Cobholm's back four kept it tight with Josh pulling off some great saves. The second half was the same, Cobholm on top dominating the game with all players putting in a much better team performance. Cobholm kept battling on which then led to them finding the back of the net which was unfortunately ruled offside. Keep this same commitment each week and you will soon get a win under your belts. COBHOLM BOYS U9 entertained Sole Bay. In the first couple of minutes Cobholm were awarded a penalty which Will F calmly smashed into the roof of the net. Seconds later, Jacob made it 2-0. Keanan then made it 3-0 with Cobholm throwing everything at the Sole Bay defenders and keeper and it wasn't long before Jacob scored a scorcher from the wing. Cobholm, playing some brilliant football, saw Will F get two more goals and. With the score 6-0 at half-time, Will M came came on in goal and kept Sole Bay at bay with good saves. Cobholm were bringing all players into the game, passing brilliantly. Keanan got his second and Cobholm's seventh. Shaun came on in defence for Mazie, who then came on for Will F with five minutes left. Cobholm won a corner which Sole Bay cleared and Shaun put it back in the Sole Bay area for Mazie to make it 8-0 at the final whistle. Man-of-the-match went to Will F. Training 10am on Saturday.

COBHOLM BOYS U8 played against Kirkley and Pakefield C. A very enjoyable game where, for once, Cobholm played well from the start. Playing a well-matched team in

K& P, there was a good all-round performance from all players. Cobholm must keep this up for the rest of the season. A close call for man-of-the-match, but Keiron just edged in for his all-round play. Training 10am on Saturday

GORLESTON FC U11 played at home this weekend to a good Kirkley and Pakefield A side who beat them at the start of the season 5-0. However, they didn't get it all their own way as it took them at least 40 minutes to score the first goal. GFC played so much improved football by simple passing and movement off the ball, creating space to move. There was some rapid closing down from all the back four who played more as a unit with TJ working hard in front of them. GFC just couldn't find the killer ball to Yoyo. GFC had their chances. If GFC keep doing this they will get better and with a couple of new players it will get easier. So if you are interested, please call Daren on 07535 696819.

GORLESTON RANGERS U14A progressed through to the next round of the Norfolk Minor Cup with a 5-0 win away at Norman Wanderers. Again the boys started the game very slowly, with the game being very scrappy without any good passing football and with both defences staying strong. However, once again Rangers broke the deadlock going 2-0 up in quick succession thanks to two great individual goals from Connor D. Rangers went in 3-0 up at half-time after some good skill on the right from Alfie saw Daniel score from his fine cross. Rangers were now in complete control of the game and did start to pass the ball better at times during the second half, scoring twice more through Alfie and Connor, completing his hat-trick. Another win, but still loads more room for improvement. Well done lads for reaching next round. Next match Loddon away in knock-out cup

GORLESTON RANGERS U8A, after a league re-shuffle and Rangers not being able to play their first game of the new league last week, were away for their second fixture of the campaign to Bohemians. The game was end to end in the first half but Rangers put the pressure on in second half. Tommy was his usual disciplined self, Regan doing great in goal, followed by Brandon in the second half. Both did good jobs in defence also. Abi was great closing down the opposition, winning back lots of balls with some nice passing and also made an excellent run, Ethan showing some great vision with excellent passing then trying to get the ball back when not in possession. Cameron was closing down every chance he had, and helping in attack with Ben supporting up front when he could, and helping to defend. James was finding good positions and helping to defend. Thanks to both sets of players and management for a brilliant one-minute's silence before kick-off in memory of Kelly Palmer. Thoughts go out to her family. And then two minutes' silence for Remembrance Day. Thanks to both sets of supporters in a great game played in superb spirit. Next game at Lynn Grove on Sunday against Gorleston FC.

GORLESTON RANGERS U12A played a battling Kirkley and Pakefield A side, running out 6-1 winners. K&P A played really well in the first half, and with defences on top it was 0-0 at half-time. The turning point came five minutes into the second half when KP deservedly took the lead. Rangers woke up and began to pass the ball and move at pace. During the next 20 minutes they scored six good goals and created many other good chances. Why they didn't play like the last 20 minutes for the full match was a mystery. No match this week. GORLESTON RANGERS U12B travelled to Bungay. Thank you to Jack who stood in at the last minute to referee. Rangers started slowly. Once they started passing the ball they got better and from a corner Matt slotted the ball away to them the lead. Rangers gave away a free kick in a dangerous area but defended it. Rangers doubled the lead with a goal from Dan. By now Rangers were passing and moving the ball well and playing some decent football, until they gave away a penalty. George made a very good save but the rebound fell to a Bungay player who scored. This led to a tense final few minutes with Bungay applying lots of pressure. Just before the end of the match Jack eased the pressure with a great strike from outside the box. Final score: 3-1 to Rangers. Man-of-the-match was Kane for a solid performance. Next match home to Gorleston FC B (kick-off 2pm). Meet at Lynn Grove by 1.30pm.

GORLESTON RANGERS U13A entertained Loddon and ran out comfortable 6-1 victors, Dan Deag opened the scoring for Rangers, latching onto a neat Jay Turner through ball after nine minutes. Jay finished well inside the box. Early in the second half Rangers failed to close down quickly enough and allowed the spirited Loddon team to pull a goal back. After that it was all Rangers. Callum Batley entered the fray and his strength and pace enabled him to finish of a great move initiated by Declan Round. Jay deservedly completed his brace, again Dan was the provider with a mazy run and cross. Dan finished well again for his second before Lucas Avie was rewarded for his efforts, poking the ball in from close range to complete the scoring. Rangers delighted their supporters - the passing, movement and determination to win the ball was of the highest quality from the whole team. Notable performances from Joe McCabe and Declan in midfield, but man-of-the-match went to Dan who capped of a fine performance with two goals. GORLESTON RANGERS U9A played a good Caister B side in the cup, running out deserved 3-2 winners. Rangers took the lead with an opportunist goal from George. With Jack and Jake in good form in defence theye looked solid. Joe and Evan put in some good effort in midfield. Caister equalised on a swift counter-attack. It was no surprise when Connor scored Rangers' second. They were well on top and hit the woodwork a couple of times. A needless foul led to a free-kick which was clinically converted. Rangers were rewarded when Connor wriggled past the last defender to fire the ball home from an acute angle. This was a good squad performance. Training continues on Saturday at Wroughton Junior School, (Beccles Road entrance), 11.15am to 12.30pm. New players are welcome. Next game: Waveney Youth A at Wroughton (kick-off 12.30pm). HEMSBY HORNETS U10A, playing against a very good St Benets Wasps, immediately had them on the back foot and had a couple of decent efforts. The boys are starting to gel and the passing was really good throughout and Hornets played very well for the entire first half. A great move involving Hadley, Billy and Connor led to a fierce volley from Dominic that the keeper saved but injured his hand badly. St Benets mounted pressure on Brady who was partnered by Billy then Nathan and Dominic, who all coped brilliantly. Good chances were created but an error cost a goal just before half-time In the second half Wasps got a quick second that Owen, who was having another good game, had no chance with. They added two more before the end. The scoreline really did not reflect this game and the efforts and commitment of the whole team were fantastic. Had Hornets taken their chances they really should have won. It won't be long before they take their chances and have comfortable wins instead of results that don't reflect the way they played. HEMSBY HORNETS U9 STINGERS played Bungay for the second week running but this time in the league. The match was close throughout but also very scrappy with some excellent passages of play but also several errors from both teams. Archie G was exceptional throughout, making some fantastic and crucial saves. Two goals were put past him but they were completely unavoidable by him with the ball not being cleared effectively by a packed defence. Archie S worked extremely hard showing some great skills and determination which resulted in the two goals to level the final result at 2-2 including a real blinder of a shot from the corner of the pitch. Kahn, Jim, Calum and Rowan all showed some great moments when passing in open play and every one of them made several great tackles to gain possession against a strong and confident Bungay attack. Ben had time playing in defence and up front and in both cases he showed great composure, with some good distribution and some well-timed tackling, he was given man-of-the-match. HEMSBY U9 WASPS huffed, Hemsby puffed, but they could not blow down the door of a strong St Benets Wasps side as they went out of the cup on Sunday. Players could not be faulted on the whole for effort, but must learn to concentrate at all times while on the pitch to ensure they start to get the results their endeavours deserve. STALHAM U10 played Taverham and drew 0-0. Every player worked hard all game closing the ball down and their manager and parents are very proud of them. Joseph made a cracking save in the second half to ensure Stalham did not lose and deservedly won player-of-the-match. Matthew came close to winning the award as he had a great second half, making some good crosses and having a good shot saved, after a great passing move between the team. Chris and Jake were solid at the back all game and Daniel, who was fantastic, worked his socks off man marking all first half. William pulled of a good save first half and his kicking was very good. Sean BK in midfield made great runs and picked out super passes. Harry again showed his strength in tackling and passing and also had some good strikes from distance. Troy had another great game making some good runs, tackles, passes and had some good corners.
