Great Yarmouth Town Football Club's new Bloaters Business Club was launched after a presentation to the local business community.

The evening, in Legends Sports Bar at the club's Wellesley ground, featured introductory sessions from club sponsorship co-ordinators Simon Clarke and Lynda Hards with support from Dale Gordon and football manager Paul Tong.

The not-for-profit business club has been set up to raise financial support and the profile of the football club through a network of local businesses who will support each other while paying a membership subscription for which they receive advertising and promotional opportunities and help in building good business relations.

The fortnightly meetings will be informal and will include a lunch.

A programme of packages to suit individual business needs was unveiled with the option to sign up as a bronze, silver or gold member. Prospective members were able to view the new railings banners which will carry company logos or other material.

Mr Gordon spoke of his work in providing football opportunities for local youngsters and in Legends Bar's promotion of football, and non-football, related activities at the ground. Two such events being lined up are a Norwich City Select XI match in October and a vintage car show next May. Evening appearances at Legends by Ian Crook and Ian Butterworth, both Norwich City staff, on August 27 and boxer Jon Thaxton on September 2 have also been arranged.

Mr Tong spoke with great enthusiasm of the way forward for the football club, which would only be possible with the support of the local business community.

A second launch evening is being set up for any who missed the first.

Sheringham 1, Great Yarmouth Town 4

After a shaky start when they conceded the goal, Yarmouth got their act together to devastating effect.

Martyn Magee, captain for-the-day against a club he once managed, received the handsome Michael Clarke Trophy from Mary Horne, sister of the former Sheringham player and cancer victim in whose memory the match is played annually (picture back page, p64).

Magee scored Yarmouth's 21st minute equaliser, a header from a Scott Woodcock corner, after it was his error that presented Sheringham with the opening goal.

Yarmouth soon went ahead in the second half when Adey Ager headed in a Woodcock corner before Liam Bartley weighed in with two goals.

Cromer 2, Great Yarmouth Town 1

The Bloaters dominated the first half with seven good chances, only one of which was converted as Liam Bartley knocked home a 19th minute cross from Vida Formoso, after good work by Adam Sewell and Scott Woodcock.

The home team equalised after half-an-hour and won as a forward converted a low centre with a brave diving header at the back post.

Stephen Lewis, the former Kings Lynn goalkeeper, made his club debut with Michael Hilton still sidelined.
