NORWICH boss Bryan Gunn is confident boardroom uncertainty will not hinder his pre-season planning.

Former chief executive Neil Doncaster and chairman Roger Munby stepped down from their high profile roles in the wake of City's Championship exit.

Director Michael Foulger issued a clarion call earlier this month for much-needed investment from Norfolk's business community to try and offset some of the financial implications of sliding into League One.

The Canaries' chief, however, is convinced the club's hierarchy is prepared to back his vision for the future following fresh talks with City's slimmed down board.

Gunn is content to play the long game in this summer's transfer market after Norwich recently banked a six figure sum for Cardiff-bound David Marshall while midfielder Sammy Clingan is also widely touted for a big-money Carrow Road exit.

“We spoke last week with the board and those discussions are on going,” he said. “I know what is happening behind-the-scenes is something that will take care of itself but they have been fully supportive of the manager and I'm sure that will continue.

“At this moment in time there is nothing to report in terms of players in or out. As we've said previously when there is then we'll announce it. A lot of managers are away, on holiday or whatever, but we are getting plenty of calls from agents. As soon as we sold David to Cardiff I had agents on the phone offering me goalkeepers. Right now, we feel it's about trying to do as much homework so that we are ready if we need to move on any of our targets. It's something that will probably gather momentum as the summer progresses.”

Gunn now knows exactly what stands between Norwich and an immediate Championship return after watching a dramatic weekend of play-off action.

Gillingham edged Shrewsbury with a late winner in the League Two showpiece before Scunthorpe squeezed past Millwall in a dramatic five-goal tussle.

“That was a great spectacle and a great advert for the division,” said Gunn. “I'd watched both teams quite a lot earlier in the season and I wasn't surprised by what I saw at Wembley. That goes for all the play-off games. There are some quality teams in the division along with some tough teams.

“Gillingham showed plenty of perseverance to go right to the end of their game and nick it at the death. That is something we need to take on board because when games are tight and uncompromising we'll need to somehow scrap out a 1-0 in the 90th minute. Now we know what we are facing and we have to make sure we get the preparation right and the right squad together.”

Leeds fell at the League One semi-final hurdle and Gunn brackets the Yorkshire giants alongside the trio of relegated Championship sides as potential prized scalps.

“You are talking there about clubs with great traditions and great history,” he said. “There are some big clubs in the division but it's about making sure we get the sort of squad who can cope with that. We have to show the right mental toughness to handle that side of it. It's really about finding the right characters and bringing them here - players who want to be part of Norwich City football club and play for this club.”
