Gorleston gained an emphatic and much-needed win over lowly Ipswich Wanderers on Tuesday evening, with Ross Gilfedder grabbing a hat-trick.

A lively and entertaining first half saw Gorleston playing some nice football at times.

Gilfedder had a couple of early half chances before the Greens took the lead in the 26th minute. The ball found its way to Joel Watts just inside the visitors’ box and his shot found the net despite the keeper getting a hand to it.

Luke Goreham then brought a flying save out of visiting keeper Daniel Joyce. The keeper was up sharply to deny Watts with his feet with the rebound falling to Gilfedder but a defender got the block in this time.

Wanderers began the second half on the front foot and Taurean Molloy had to produce his first real save of the match in the 52nd minute, pushing over a Paris Tuwizana effort.

However, it was Gorleston who scored next just before the hour mark when Watts burst forward, played a one two with Gilfedder and blasted in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.

The confidence could be seen growing through the Greens side and this time with a two goal lead they kept pushing forward looking for that vital third goal which duly arrived in the 68th minute.

If the spectators thought Watts was a cracker then Gilfedder’s first of the match surpassed that when he caught the ball sweetly from 25 yards to send a dipping shot flying past the keeper.

Four minutes later it was four. Watts turned provider, winning the ball back on the edge of the box before sliding Gilfedder in and he kept his cool to slot the ball home.

With four minutes of the 90 remaining, Mitch McKay entered the fray and, within two minutes, he was drilling the ball into the goal to make it five.

New signing Jackson Ramm was then handed a brief debut before the Greens completed the rout.

McKay was also involved in the sixth goal, in the third minute of time added on, when he went on a marauding run before laying the ball off to Gilfedder who tucked it away.

Match sponsors Midstream Coatings awarded the Batemans man-of-the-match to Gilfedder.
