Goals flow for Greens pre-season

Gorleston continued their preparations for tomorrow’s home Ridgeons Premier game with Haverhill Rovers (3pm) with two more victories, and plenty of goals.

On Saturday they travelled to Debenham and enjoyed a 4-1 victory whilst, on Tuesday night, Norwich St Johns visited Emerald Park and were soundly beaten 7-0.

The Greens notched 30 goals in their six (not counting the Norwich City game) pre-season friendlies.

The last time Haverhill Rovers visited Emerald Park was for a First Division game in October 2006 which ended goalless.

Haverhill gained promotion at the end of that season.

Rovers toiled in pre-season, with three losses, a draw and a win.

The draw was with Histon at the New Croft and, most recently, they lost at home 3-1 against Ryman League Division One side Ware.

Their manager Peter Betts said: “Results are irrelevant at the moment. We’re going through some set pieces to be organised for the Gorleston game, as I think they will be a good side this season.”

On Tuesday night the Greens travel to Walmer Road to play Kirkley & Pakefield, for their first away league game of the season.

Kirkley signed two players from Gorleston during the summer, Jack Herbert and Sean Blowers and have also added Yarmouth’s Joe Bell to their squad.

They completed their pre-season with a goalless draw against Bury Town.

Off the pitch Gorleston are still looking for a new treasurer.
