Gorleston 4, Thetford 1

GORLESTON, who look set to finish fourth in the Ridgeons First Division, opened the scoring in the second minute on Tuesday night, writes David Hardy.

Pressure in the Thetford penalty area saw the ball break out to Aaron Huggins-Bowers who smashed it home from the edge of the box. The Greens passed the ball more in the first 10 minutes than they had in the whole of the previous game and after 13 minutes a through ball sent Liam Bartley clear to coolly slot the ball past the keeper. Four minutes later Chris Sandford peeled off a defender and latched on to a Jacob Short through ball and finished with aplomb.

Midway through the half Elliot Pride had to save from a close-range Simon Richards effort before Short had a shot blocked. Bartley almost made it four when he was found by Ryan Bloomfield, but the lob over the keeper drifted wide.

Thetford, who had struggled to raise a team, rallied and had claims for a penalty turned down before they pulled a goal back four minutes before half-time, Simon Mann heading through a ruck of players from a corner.

Second half Gary Williams was denied by the outrushing keeper and Sandford had a long-range effort turned over the bar. It was end-to-end as Steve Taylor had an effort acrobatically saved before Pride came out to block at the feet of Mann.

With a minute left of the 90, Bloomfield crossed to Harman who touched the ball back and Ryan Pearson steered the ball home through a cluster of legs from 20 yards to score his first goal for the club. There was still time for Harman to lob the keeper but the ball went just wide.

Team: Elliot Pride, Thomas Daniels (Jonny Watt 85), Ryan Bloomfield, Aaron Huggins-Bowers (Ryan Pearson 46), Adam Thurtle, Eddie Thompson. Chris Sandford, Jacob Short, Liam Bartley (Regan Harman 39), Steve Taylor, Gary Williams.
