Gorleston Football Club

Following the late postponement of last week’s game at leaders Cambridge University Press, and Whitton United’s 2-0 win over Diss Town, Gorleston have slipped to third in Ridgeons Division One, with Whitton leap-frogging them into second.

The Greens and Whitton have now played the same number of games as each other and both have five games in hand on the leaders, but Whitton have a two-point advantage over Gorleston.

Gorleston, however, have a chance to regain second spot if they return with a victory from a difficult trip to March Town United tomorrow whilst Whitton are without a game.

March are currently mid-table but have beaten the Greens twice already this season, winning 3-2 in the league at Emerald Park back in November and also knocking the Greens out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory on their own turf.

With the first team out of action it was the Reserves who took centre stage last Saturday at Emerald Park when they played against Stowmarket Reserves.

Two thumping shots from Adam Mills gave Gorleston a 2-0 half-time lead and, despite Stowmarket pulling a goal back early in the second half, the result never looked in doubt.

Further strikes from Dane Whitely, Lewis Smith and two from Mitch Forbes gave Gorleston a 6-1 victory.

Tomorrow, the Reserves will entertain their counterparts from Dereham.

On Wednesday, March 2, Gorleston U18s will be in action at Emerald Park when they host Cromer in the league.
