An equaliser deep into injury time gave the Greens the point they deserved in their final home game of the season.

Stewart Larter made four changes from the midweek win at Haverhill Borough. Jackson Ramm and Peter Lambert were out, with Sean Perfect and Ismael Fatadjo dropping to the bench. In came George Yusuff, Mitch McKay, Jack Garrod and Joel Watts.

Histon began the better and took the lead in the 14th minute in rather fortunate fashion. Kyle Ingram appeared to get a nudge in the back which saw the ball bounce off him out of play. The referee just gave the throw which was taken quickly, about 10 yards further forward from where it had gone out, and it found Ed Rolph totally unmarked in the middle of the Greens’ box and the ball was bundled into the net.

Gorleston were playing good football but it was the visitors who came closest to scoring again in the 40th minute when a 25-yard free kick from Lee Smith bounced away off the top of the bar.

A Middleton through ball sent Garrod away eight minutes into the second half. He found Gilfedder but the striker’s shot was straight at the goalkeeper.

Smith hit an effort which was always going over as the half began to drift and became a typical end of season affair.

But a couple of substitutions saw Gorleston regain purpose and start gain the ascendancy. Middleton’s first time ball sent Watts into the box but he screwed the shot wide. Fatadjo then replaced Middleton and a foray from him into the box brought out a save from Sam Roach.

Gorleston continued to press forward and in the third minute of injury time, got their just reward.

A Kyle Ingram free-kick into the box was cleared and found its way back to Ingram. He hit a deeper cross and George Yusuff rose highest at the far post to loop a header over the keeper into the net.

A minute later a Histon free-kick on the right was launched into the box. James Chilvers powered a header goalwards which looked destined to find the net until Freestone threw himself to his left to turn the ball around the post. The Batemans man-of-the-match was Aarron Taylor.

Gorleston: Freestone, Burrage, Ingram, Goreham, Yusuff, Taylor, Garrod, McKay (Russell 65), Gilfedder, Middleton (Fatadjo 75), Watts (Perfect 78). Att: 136.
