Gorleston twice came from behind to gain a decent point at Long Melford.
The squad was stretched, with 10 players unavailable for various reasons, and the side showed four changes to the team that had beaten Fakenham in midweek.
Harley Clements returned to the side while Mitch McKay, Owen French and Jack Cottingham all started.
The hosts almost took the lead in the third minute but David Shade was covering to clear Will Wingfield’s effort off the line.
After 12 minutes the first corner of the game went to Melford. It was fired into the box where Antony Waugh had got a run on his marker and arrived at the near post unchallenged to plant his header into the net.
Nathan Russell had an effort saved before Wingfield hit one straight at Scott Foreman.
Five minutes before the break, French climbed highest in the Melford box and nodded goalwards. The ball seemed to be heading into the net before a defender rose from nowhere to head off the line.
The Greens began the second period better and just four minutes in found an equaliser. Sean Perfect’s skill on the left saw him lay the ball inside to Peter Lambert who flicked it into the path of Joel Watts on the edge of the box. He took aim and drilled a shot unerringly into the top corner.
Gorleston were in the ascendancy but disaster struck on 56 minutes. Foreman looked to have a free-kick into the box under control but the ball slipped from his grasp. Hassan Ally was quickest to pounce on the loose ball and he squared it for Ben Judge to convert.
Five minutes later Melford almost increased their lead when Wingfield’s header crashed against the underside of the bar.
Gorleston then piled on the pressure and the deserved equaliser arrived with seven minutes remaining. A free-kick was played into the box where Shade rose highest to nod goalwards.
An almighty scramble ended with Lambert hitting the underside of the bar before being hooked away. It might have been over but the referee didn’t give it and the ball bounced up to Russell who headed home.
