Gorleston should be in good heart when they enter this season’s FA Vase competition tomorrow with a home clash against Framlingham Town.

A tough spell which has seen key players leave and the team suffer six successive defeats came to an end in no uncertain fashion on Tuesday when the Greens hammered Ipswich Wanderers 6-0 at Emerald Park.

It was a first win for Stewart Larter since taking over as manager last month and he will be hoping it proves to be a springboard for an upturn in fortunes.

Framlingham play in the Thurlow Nunn First Division but, having already been victims of a giant-killing in the Norfolk Senior Cup at Mulbarton Wanderers, the Greens will not be taking anything for granted.

The visitors are still unbeaten in the league and have already played three Vase matches, beating Waltham Forest 2-0, Diss Town 3-2 after extra-time and Cockfosters 2-0. If the scores are level at 90 minutes there will be extra-time and then a replay on Tuesday if required.

Gorleston suffered a blow last week when striker Connor Ingram left the club to join Wroxham, following Connor Deeks’ earlier decision to make the same move.

But there was some good news on Tuesday with Larter giving a debut off the bench to new signing to Jackson Ramm who was with him at Wroxham and has also played for Dereham and King’s Lynn.

He was on the books of Norwich City as a youngster and represented Blackburn and Colchester as well as England U-18s.

With what Reserve team boss Scott Butler described as their worst performance in two years, Gorleston Reserves were dumped out of the Norfolk Junior Cup, losing 5-1 at AFC Lynn. They return to league action with a game at Hingham Athletic (2.30pm).

Gorleston U18 are back in action next Thursday when they travel to Plantation Park to play Harford Tornadoes.
