GORLESTON Golf Club staged its annual Eclectic Open foursomes, 36-hole medal tournament last weekend for the coveted Charlie Drake and George C Peck trophies. Pairs are welcomed from Bungay, Caldecott, Diss, Halesworth, Rookery, Royal Norwich and Stowmarket clubs time and again. Course knowledge came to the fore as classy home club champs Paul and Penny Platten strolled to victory. Having opened with an impressive net 63 in the morning, in the afternoon round they shaved four strokes off their earlier total to record a best of the day net 59.

Jim and Rosemary Woodhouse (Gorleston) took second place edging last year's winners Reg Cavender and Lee Crosswell (Gorleston) into third on the countback after both pairs finished with a net 60.

The best scratch score of the day (after countback) was gross 71 by seven and eight handicappers Jonathan Burgess and Patrick Greaney (Gorleston). Out of the 72 entrants that teed off, 36 were visitors. Nine started their afternoon rounds with sleeves of balls won in the ball draw, whilst the splendid prize table ensured that the top 19 pairs went home happy.
