Gorleston Golf Club’s Hambro Team travelled to Diss Golf Club on Sunday to play their Suffolk County Hambro Trophy semi-final against a team from Haverhill Golf Club.
The team captained by Danny Perring were two up at lunchtime in this 36 hole foursomes matchplay competition.
In the afternoon, in glorious weather and to the delight of the Gorleston supporters, the team recorded a brilliant win 10 up.
Gorleston go on to the Hambro final where they will play Bury St Edmunds at Rookery Park this Sunday and the club wish them every success.
A team of six ladies from Gorleston Golf Club played their Suffolk County Cranworth semi-final match against Newton Green at Fynn Valley and turned in a fine performance before being edged out by a single point.
The Cranworth Trophy is a 36 hole competition in which a squad of eight, including two reserves, play three foursomes matches in the morning and six singles matches in the afternoon.
Despite being 2-1 down at lunchtime the ladies continued to battle really hard before eventually losing 5-4.
The team have done extremely well this year to reach the semi-final of this competition for the first time since 2006.
The Men’s Section Summer Stableford Division One was won by Rob van den Boogaard with 43 points on countback from Ben Leuty, with David Uden 41 points in third place.
Division Two was won by Malcolm Lake with 41 points on countback from Andrew Witthames with Adrian Price on 40 points in third.
The Ladies’ Section were again hampered by rain when they played their rescheduled Golf Foundation Stableford competition.
Winning on the day was Kim Potter with an excellent 38 points from Anne Amos second 34 points and Victoria Watson in third place with 32 points.
Norfolk Girls came third in the East Region Junior County Match Days at Colne Valley. They took on teams from the hosts, Hertfordsfire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk and Cambs & Hunts in a round robin event and recovered well after a poor start.
