Gorleston Ladies beat Long Stratton Ladies 8-0 to secure the NWGFL Division Two title and back-to-back promotions.

Having seen off title contenders Sprowston Ladies the week before the Greens went into this match full of confidence and duly produced the goods.

As usual Gorleston were full of running, with top goal scorer Beth Turner giving Stratton defence a torrid time early on before Kayleigh Byrne drove through the middle, went round the keeper and calmly slotted home.

Kayleigh then found Mary Croft on left wing who slipped past her marker and hit a right-footed shot from 20 yards out which bent round the keeper.

Then an inch perfect corner from the right found Leanne Smith rising above Stratton with a well-timed header to make it 3-0 before the interval

The second half saw Greens kicking against the wind and producing some of their best passing football of the season so far. Sam Hunn playing out of position on the left wing was rampant, exchanging neat passes with Kayleigh, Kelly and Beth and driving through the Stratton defence time and time again.

Mary swung a free-kick in from the right and after a perfect run from Sam at the far post, she hit a thunderous shot into back of the net for a well-deserved goal.

Debutant Maria Jardim settled in to midfield well, winning balls and setting other players off, Indeed it was Maria who won the ball, beat a Stratton player and slipped it through to Sam to stroke home for her second and the Greens’ fifth.

Beth added a sixth after some fine play from Elisha and Leanne Muffett before Smith added her second and Gorleston’s seventh, assisted by Beth.

Sam then wrapped things up by completing her hat-trick to make the final score 8-0.

This was by no means an easy match for Greens as Long Stratton fought for every ball. Overall it was a superb performance and a well-deserved victory. Player of the match was Sam Hunn, who never stopped running and got three goals as a reward.

After the game Greens’ skipper Hayley Muir commented: “We have done it! Huge congratulations to the girls, we work so hard both on and off the pitch,

“It has been a privilege to captain the team this season but we aren’t done yet, we still have important games to play.”
