GORLESTON ground out three points against fellow promotion rivals Diss to make it 10 league games without defeat writes David Hardy.

Darren Cockrill continued in the back three and Jamie Stockeld, another championship-winning ex-Trawlerboy, made his debut as left wing back.

The Greens started playing some nice passing football but with no real end product, and Diss looked most likely to score.

A dipping shot from George Watts-Sturrock after nine minutes skimmed off the top of Elliot Pride's bar and six minutes later Pride was down sharply to save a David Adams header.

It was the 23rd minute before Gorleston created their first real chance when Mitch Forbes burst into the box but attempted to round keeper Matthew Webster, who just managed to get a hand to the ball.

Pride then produced a magnificent tip over from a powerful Jason Hunt shot thenshowed smart reflexes to deny Xavier Huckle from five yards.

Forbes was almost in from a Howes flick before Steve Taylor hooked an effort over the bar.

After 38 minutes the best move of the game produced the only goal. Adam Thurtle did superbly on the right and hit a great ball forward for John Bell. He rounded the keeper and pulled the ball back across the box where Forbes gleefully powered home.

The Tangerines started the second half on the front foot and a corner drilled across the box evaded everybody. A Bell shot from 25 yards produced a spectacular diving catch from keeper Webster and two minutes later Bell was played in by Taylor but stumbled over the ball as he tried to round the keeper. The ball found Howes, who was unable to get his shot away.

Gorleston dug in as Diss pressed with Hunt shooting wide, and after 73 minutes a powerful shot from Stuart Garner produced another terrific save from Pride.

Ten minutes from time Taylor beat the offside and got to the byline, but pulled the ball back just behind Michael Tacon with the goal at his mercy, and he could only direct it wide.

The Greens held on against mounting pressure to make it 10 league games without defeat, seven straight wins in all competitions and only one goal conceded in their last five league games.

Manager Richard Daniels said: “We're on a bit of a roll now, 10 without defeat. These were three very big points. We're building a solid base, which you can see from the goals against column.”

The Greens travel to March tomorrow, while the reserves entertain Stowmarket Town Reserves at Emerald Park kick-off 3pm. Gorleston U18 entertain Harford on Wednesday, 7.45pm.
