A weather-curtailed Ridgeons League programme saw plenty of goals, Mildenhall leading the way with nine against Premier Division bottom side Wivenhoe, who took little consolation from scoring three goals away for the first time this season.

With just three points from 25 games, they now have the worst return in the whole league following Fakenham's 2-2 Division One draw at mid-table Saffron Walden, the Ghosts' first draw of the season.

Fakenham, with four points from 19 games, have a real chance of avoiding the wooden spoon with the team above them, Long Melford, having 16 points from five more games.

“It's a jigsaw for me at the moment with two or three pieces missing,” said Wayne Anderson, who recently took over the Clipbush Park helm and who scored the equalisinggoal at Safron Walden.

He made under-18 player Dan Savory his man of the match in central midfield in a team in which other teenagers Ed Skinner and Harry Felton earned praise.

Darryl Rose gave Fakenham a first-half lead, beating his marker for pace and chipping the keeper.

But a mix-up over a back pass led to an own goal equaliser before Saffron Walden took the lead with a 35-yard pearler.

Keeper Tom Rix kept Fakenham in the game before Lee Hyde slipped Anderson - who had moved himself up front - the pass to claim the equaliser.

“It was a good draw against a big, physical side. There is a lot of promise out there at the moment. The last 10 minutes their keeper made two or three good saves. We could have walked off 4-2 winners,” said Anderson.

Gorleston kept on the heels of the first division promotion pack by playing a nap hand at Swaffham.

The Pedlars' defence were under pressure from the start. Swaffham were caught napping in the twelth minute with a long ball played down the right and poor marking allowed a simple tap-in. The Greens scored their second from a corner in the 34th minute. Town then conceded two more before half-time.

Swaffham re-emerged a different side for the second half, but opportunities were few, the best effort by Kyle Plumb in the 70th minute. While Swaffham remained goal-less, Gorleston added their fifth in the last minute, an easy knock-in from a parried Brooks save.

Diss beat Whitton 2-1 at Brewers Green Lane through two strikes late in the first half to keep the pressure on during the final nine weeks of the promotion race with several games in hand on rival sides.

Darren Moyes made two top-class saves inside two minutes before Diss broke through in the 40th minute after Luke Catchpole was fouled out wide on the Diss right wing. Stuart Garner curled the free-kick to the near post for Catchpole to glance home his header. Two minutes later a cross from Sam Bryant found George Watts-Sturrock. His shot was blocked and Jon Abbott steered the loose ball in from eight yards.

A nervous final 20 minutes was set up for a Diss team which had seen a three-goal lead wiped out in their previous match, when a throw in to the near post was brought under control by Dean Cooper. He held off challenges to squeeze his low shot into the net. Whitton should have equalised in the 81st minute but Neil Shade shot over from close range after Josh Brown headed down a free-kick from the left.

Thetford claimed a deserved 3-0 home win over Cornard with two goals from Matt Dixon, one a first-half penalty, and one for Simon Mann. Dixon claimed his first with 15 minutes on the clock.
