You wait three years for one and then Gorleston Reserves suffer two defeats in a row.

The Greens’ second string followed up their 4-0 defeat at Swaffham Reserves with a 5-2 home reverse at the hands of Norwich CEYMS Reserves at the weekend, with both of their goals being scored by Sam Wooldridge.

Gorleston Reserves remain third in the Anglian Combination Division Three table with games in hand on their rivals and their next match on January 6 is against league leaders Buxton at Emerald Park.

Prior to the previous match, Graham Jubb presented Gorleston Reserves with the Anglian Combination team of the month award for August/September.

Caister were involved in an eventful game in the Premier Division, losing 4-3 at home to second placed Bradenham Wanderers.

Keegan Middleton (2) and George Barnden scored for the home side but goals from Joel Bryant (2), Rob Thurlow and Ryan Curtis saw the visitors take the points.

Caister Reserves were the only one of the region’s teams to see action in Division Two, going down 2-0 at Sprowston Athletic.

The fixture between Martham and East Harling - set to put fifth against second - was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch while Acle United Reserves were forced to concede their scheduled fixture at Fakenham Reserves.

Great Yarmouth Reserves also had a day off in Division Four when their fixture at Gayton United Reserves was postponed.

The Anglian Combination season now takes a two week break for Christmas and the New Year, with the action resuming on Saturday, January 6.

Meanwhile Great Yarmouth Town’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Newmarket Town on Saturday came as a big disappointment to joint manager Martin Sinclair, whose side are now without a league win at The Wellesley since early November.

“You cannot give a team like Newmarket space from a dead ball and not expect to get punished,” he said.

“Once they had the lead they made it very difficult for us.

“After a poor first half we gave it a go in the second half but our play lacked any real conviction.

“On a positive note young keeper Connor Milligan had a great game for us and kept us in it at times with a few excellent saves.”
