FOR the Grand East Anglia Run around the streets of King's Lynn a total of 1770 runners registered.

Four members of GYDAC ran this 10km race - three of whom had already completed the London Marathon only seven days before. The weather conditions were ideal and the spectator support was immense.

John England, who had a long- term injury prior to London, was pleased to complete the course with no further injuries in a time of 53:32.

Elaine Haggarty finished in

1-04:10, closely followed by Maureen England, who also had injuries before London, so was very pleased with 1-04:23.

The final GYDAC runner was Pat Brightman who was feeling a few aches after the previous Sunday, so was therefore pleased with 1-18:16.

Along with 180 runners, nine members of Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club ran the second race in the Great Yarmouth Road Runners' Promenade five-mile series. The weather was ideal.

The first member home was Chris Gay, fresh from his London Marathon personal best, in a time of 35:34. Improving on his time from the first race, Dave Goodwin came home in 37:11.

Dave Drewitt, who is recording some remarkable times at the moment, again beat his previous time to finish in 38:08.

A former track athlete, now competing on the road, Andrew McNamara also improved his time to 39:14.

The ladies, who didn't run the first race due to London Marathon commitments, were pleased with their times. First home was Dawn Clegg in 51:31.21, very closely followed by Maureen England in 51:31.43.

The ever-improving Denise Goodwin again had an excellent time of 52:37 with Elaine Haggarty just behind in 52:52.

The last GYDAC member to finish was Pat Brightman, who despite a sprint finish trying to beat one hour, came home in 1:00.05.

The next event on the Norfolk calendar will be the Dereham 10-mile on Sunday, which is also a Runners Centre Grand Prix and County Championship race.

GYDAC's road running club members like to diversify, so on Sunday Chris Gay and Elaine Haggarty took to the roads on their bikes for the 25-mile - Beccles Cycle for Life.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Beccles in aid of raising funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

A total of 390 riders covering various distances from seven to 50 miles took part in this ride - not a race - which started at Beccles, riding through the country roads of Ringsfield, Iketshall St Andrew and Sotterley then returning to Beccles.

The next cycle ride for club members will be the Norwich 50/100 on Sunday, June 7.
