Great Yarmouth-Broadland ran Swaffham close in their latest Eastern Counties League game before slipping to a narrow away defeat.

The visitors started well, with some good runs from Lee Raven and George Wilson, but the early pressure did not lead to a score as Swaffham slowly worked back to midfield.

The home side piled on the pressure and initially good tackling from Jamie Murray and Jacob Wells held them back. but Swaffham gained momentum with a maul and a break from the back saw them score in the corner. The kick-off was disastrous for the Great Yarmouth side as Swaffham broke wide and clear to score.

The visitors composed themselves, with Ben Collings working hard to get the ball moving and some good work from Howley providing a platform for both Kieron Wilkes and Nathan Bensley to have some good runs. Swaffham added a penalty and another score before the the interval, leaving the visitors trailing 18-0.

Broadland worked hard at the start of the half, Kane Read and Joel Allard moved the ball inside the Swaffham half and with a penalty awarded Shaun Howley stepped up to take three points.

The Great Yarmouth side continued with the pressure and some good work out wide from Jimmy Dwyer and Chris Burling saw Jamie Murray break through and an infringement at the goal line by Swaffham saw a penalty try awarded.

Great Yarmouth’s attacking style continued, with Liam Haylett making a great break from the halfway line but he could not quite make the goal line. Sami Jordan broke down the wing and offloaded inside to Asa Morrison who crossed only for the score to be disallowed as Jordan had been judged to have jumped into the tackle while off loading.

With time running down James Murphy had a good break down the wing but again could not find support at the right moment.
