Great Yarmouth-Broadland hosted league leaders Fakenham in a match which was always going to be a tough one.

Fakenham started with the wind behind them, and the steady rainfall made conditions difficult underfoot.

Great Yarmouth applied some early pressure, through some good running from full back James Murphy, but Fakenham were able to clear.

A break in midfield, saw Fakenham stretch the defence to break and score. Fakenham continued to put on the pressure pressure and a second try came shortly afterwards.

Great Yarmouth responded by working down the field, with some good work from Darren Gook and Nathan Bensley winning a penalty which Stuart Murray converted.

Scrum-half Simon Ruddick was utilising the forwards well, Liam Haylett had a half break and Kieron Wilkes broke from deep, but good play failed to turn into points. Fakenham added a third try just before the interval to lead 19-3.

The second half started well with Great Yarmouth making some good ground, Jimmy Dwyer, George Wilson and Shaun Howley put in good runs, moving the ball close to Fakenham’s line, but the home side settled for a penalty from fly half Murray.

Fakenham came straight back at the home side, Stuart Murray prevented a score with a well-timed interception and cleared but the visitors still pushed at the line. with Asa Morrison and Ben Collings both making solid try line tackles as Fakeham were held back. Calum Courtney and Ben Burch both put in good runs and Jacob Wells had a break wide, but the home side could not find the space to break clear.

Fakenham repeatedly kicked deep, but these were well fielded by wings Jamie Murray and Jay Pollard. Great Yarmouth were moving the ball well, but could not create a much needed score and Fakenham added a final try to secure the win.
