Great Yarmouth–Broadland Rugby Club held its annual May Ball and awards night in a marquee adjacent to the club house in Great Yarmouth on Saturday.
Liam Haylett received the first team players’ player of the year award,
The back row forward was ever present in the first team during the season, scoring some spectacular tries throughout the camapign.
First team captain Rich Ruddick presented the captain’s award to centre Shaun Howley who had another strong season in the first XV, even switching from centre to fly-half towards the end of campaign.
The second team players’ player of the year was awarded to Nathan Cocking, He proved his versatility by switching between backs and forwards during the season, his strong tackling and running being a great asset to the team.
Captain Jimmy Dwyer awarded his player of the year to Jay Pollard, Veteran Pollard had an exceptional season, playing both at scrum-half and fly-half.
In a carbon copy of the first team awards Liam Haylett was awarded Sevens Player of the Year, with Shaun Howley receiving Sevens’ captain’s player of the year from last year’s Sevens captain George Wilson.
Young player of the year was awarded to Alex Goff, whose hard hitting tackling was invaluable to the second XV.
Steve White was awarded clubman of the year in recognition of all his work in the club over the past year. Formally holding the role of equipment officer, Steve supported a number of additional activities and events at the club, always willing to help others.
Darren Gook was awarded coaches player of the year due to his hard work on the pitch, and great attitude in training.
Second team captain Jimmy Dwyer was awarded club sportsman of the year in recognition of his ‘can do’ attitude both off and on the pitch.
Club veterans Geoff Hawkes and Matt Beckett were awarded tankards for playing 20 seasons.
In recognition of reaching 250 appearances for the club, Lee Raven was presented with a commemorative tie. Thanks are given to everyone who made the awards night a great success.
Great-Yarmouth Broadland finished the Eastern Counties 2N season in fifth position.
