The home side made some good ground early and continued to apply considerable pressure, with captain Shaun Howley putting over a penalty.

Pressure continued with some good work from Martyn Greenwood and Stu Brown moving the ball in close. Following a couple of surges at the line, it was Jimmy Dwyer who managed to find a small gap to score a try converted by Howley.

Stowmarket came to life through a well taken break and a couple of off-loads saw the visitors go over to score a converted try.

Great Yarmouth still worked hard to move the ball into Stowmarket territory and Howley extended the lead via a second penalty. Ben Collings made some good ground out wide and this was backed up through some hard running from Tristian Barber.

Scrum-half Simon Ruddick pulled the forwards in tight, with Stacey Ledgerwood and Josh Evans moving the ball closer to the Stowmarket line before George Wilson burst through to score, converted by Howley. Stowmarket added a penalty at the end of the half.

The second half got off to a flying start with a promising attack but Stowmarket held firm. Both sides made a number of substitutions, with Ball, Halylett, Lovick and Bensley all coming on.

Jay Pollard linked well with James Doggett to bring the ball over the halfway line.

Great Yarmouth steadily moved the ball forward, with some great work from Nathan Cocking and Asa Morrison who secured possession, the ball moving wide across the pitch and following a quick ruck Dwyer broke through to score his second.

Both defences then held firm for the remainder of the match.

Tomorrow the first XV host Saffron Walden second XV in the penultimate league game of the season. Their final fixture is at Haverhill and District on Saturday week.
