A four-ball team event, the ‘November Knock’ with the best two scores being recorded on each hole, saw 24 teams enjoy a shotgun start event that was followed by a salute to the Great Yarmouth and Caister Club’s 2015 golfing champions.

A strong wind made conditions tough and not for the fainthearted but with flags stiff from the south westerly wind there was still some remarkable scoring.

The winning dream team consisted of Thaine Hacon, Martin Grimmer, Steve Greatrix and Nick Larner.

They were never going to be blown off course and carded an incredible 85 points. In second place the team of Billy Humphreys, Peter Furlong, Bernie Barron and Trevor Farman shot 84 points and in third the team of Derek Mullard, Robert Jones, Brian Winn and Peter Munford scored 82 points.

In fourth was the team of Mark Seabrook, Bob White, Cliff Williams and Paul Burt.

The dream team captain, Martin Grimmer paid tribute to the organisers from the greens team and all the team at the Caister Links, not only for that event but for all their efforts throughout a very successful year.

The playing condition of the links are probably the best in the county at the moment.

After the event the club held a minute’s silence in solidarity to the events in France.

The captain then handed out no less than five hole-in-one ties for members achieving the feat during the year to Brian Winn, Alan Brooks, Peter Munford, Bruce Sturrock and Steve Greatrex

The champions presentations began with the ladies trophy winners.

Men’s section trophy winners for 2015 were: Thaine Hacon, Scott Boon, Ben Phillips, Peter Richmond, Adam Flaxman, Steve Curtis, Joey Basey, Matthew Palmer, John Deonysiou, Martin Smith, Ross Smith, Graham Flower, James Colclough, Dave George, Richard Gilbert, Glen Edmonds, Robin Brown, Kevin Woods, Gareth Davies, Philip Adams, Paul Burt, Martin Grimmer, Steve Greatrex, Terry Atkins and Dave Kightley.

Thaine Hacon was the club’s champion golfer of the year collecting no fewer than five trophies, the Lucas Badge, Lindsay Cup, Blackheath Medal, Great Yarmouth Badge and Caister Jug.

A raffle for the captains’ charity raised more than £1,000 .The captain reminded everyone about the packed winter golfing line up and the huge amount of social events on the calendar leading up to the holiday season.

The club is still offering a half-price first-year membership and some special winter deals.
