The final stages of the Dingle Motor Group Men’s Pairs at the Great Yarmouth Bowls Festival were decided. In the first semi-final Phil Parsons and Phil Emmerson from York will play Ian Anderson and Brian Grint from Caister and Acle Bowls Clubs. The York pair beat D Bryan and K Moore 25-8 and then had a close game against M Elliott and D Sherman, getting home 21-5. Their final game against T White and M Topping produced an easy 31-9 win. The Grint pair beat L Foster and J Belson 25-10. They then won their second game 26-25 before beating Wayne and Chris Willgress 20-16.
In the second semi-final Rocky Lewis and Mark Riches will play Tom and James Segolo. The Segolo twins won 23-12 against M Lain and R Pratt, 23-11 against G Roe and S Stimpson 23-11 and 20-19 against D Mann and L Harris.
The Riches pair beat K and A Brooks in their first game, J Baxter and P Clutterbuck 22-11 in their second and in their final game G Tubby and N McDonald, who had beaten the holders A Dunton and G Oakley in their previous game.
The quarter-finals of the Astro Communications (Kent) sponsored under-25 singles set up the following games: J Willgress v J Tufts, D McDonald v J Segolo, M Sparrow v N Nimmo, D Mills v C Wells.
Friday
York duo Phil Parsons and Phil Emmerson won the Dingle Motor Group Men’s Pairs. In the final they played the Norfolk Bowls Club pair of Tom and James Segolo. The game was a one-sided affair, with the York pair racing into a 9-1 lead after five ends.
The twins then reduced the deficit to 10-5 after 10 ends only for the Emmerson pair to score a five on the next end before finishing worthy champions after a 23-5 victory.
In their semi-final the Norfolk Bowling Club pair played Rocky Lewis from Downham Market and Mark Riches from Norfolk Bowling Club, The Riches pair led 3-2 at five ends but the Segolos moved 15-5 ahead at 10 ends, a lead they held on to win 24-12.
The eventual winners played Ian Anderson of Caister BC and Brian Grint of Acle St Edmonds.
The Emmerson pair always held the upper hand and led 7-1 at five ends, 12-6 after 10 and finally ran out winners 23-8.
The final of the Astro Communications (Kent) sponsored Under-25 Singles was between James Segolo and Danny Mills of the Acle St Edmonds.
Danny started the stronger, leading 8-0, but James fought back to 8-3 and he then held four shots only for Danny to move the jack with his last wood to score four shots himself. This effectively sealed the game in his favour, with the result 21-12.
Semi-final losers were Norfolk Bowling Club’s Jake Willgress and Nathan Nimmo from Milton Keynes.

The early rounds of the Nottingham Bowls Shop men’s triples were played.
Last year’s winners G Haylett, AB Nutt and B Wymer from the Caister Bowls Club won their first game but in their second lost to A Jones, L Foster and B McGrath.
They were 8-1 down at five ends, 12-5 down at 10 ends and ended up losing 17-8.
Fours and pairs winners Phil Parsons and Phil Emmerson, partnered by G Tubby, won their two games 23-6 and 15-14.
The Downham Market triple of R Lewis, M King and M Riches also won two games, 21-12 and 21-10.
Other selected winners on the day were: G Spooner, F Ray and P Long, D Cole, C Boon andA Dunton, M and J Hunter and K Breame and D and S Goodley and B Grint.
The early rounds of the Three Norfolk Square guest house ladies’ pairs were played and early winners were C Neave and V Smith, M Haylett and G Reeve, P Struthers and P Thorpe, S Hardingham and P Rolph, R Clarke and T Knights and B Whitehead and E Adams.
Monday
The final stages of the Nottingham Bowls Shop Men’s Triples were settled.
Rocky Lewis, John Sewell and Mike King made it through to the first semi-final, against Phil Parsons, George Tubby and Phil Emmerson. The King triple beat Frank Ray, Graham Spooner and Phil Long 20-8 and then David Cole, Charlie Boon and Tony Dunton 16-12. The Emmerson triple beat John Hunter, Michel Hunter and Kenny Bream 15-13, after being in front 14-2 at one stage, and then won 26-8.
In the second game Clive Derry, Mark Turner and Trevor Jermy set up a clash with Robert Dodd, Gary Goodrum and Paul Shackcloth. In their first game the Shackcloth triple played D Adams, T Wones and R Anderson-Dungar and edged home 19-14.
In the second game against P Ellis, G Bentley and B Knights they won 20-13. The Jermy trio won their games 19-16 and 24-9.
In the 3 Norfolk Square Guest House Ladies’ Pairs semi-finals Mel Haylett and Geraldine Reeve will play Gwen Xurgub and Marion Himpleman after they won 23-15 and 24-17.
The second game will feature Freethorpe’s Janet Church and Rose Yaxley and Martham’s Monica Fisher and Elaine Donavan.
Tuesday
Phil Emmerson and Phil Parsons became the first players to win the opening three tournaments at the Festival.
Together with George Tubby they completed an early hat-trick when they won the Nottingham Bowls Shop Men’s Triples after beating Robert Dodd, Gary Goodrum and Paul Shackcloth 23-22.
The Emmerson triple scored a four on the third end to lead 6-2 but a three and a one by Shackcloth brought the scores level. On the next end the Shackcloth triple picked up six shots but by the 11th end the Emmerson triple had reduced the deficit to two shots.
They then scored four shots to their opponents’ one to lead 17-16, but then dropped five shots on the 15th end, only to score a four and a two on the next two ends to lead on the 17th end 23-21.
The Shackcloth triple tried hard to gain two shots to take the game into an extra end, but managed only to score a single shot. leaving the Emmerson triple the 2015 champions.
The losing semi-finalists were Rocky Lewis, John Sewell and Mick King and Clive Derry, Mark Turner and Trevor Jermy.
The final of the 3 Norfolk Square Guest House Ladies pairs was played, between Geraldine Reeve and Mel Haylett and Acle St Edmunds’ Gwen Xuerub and Marion Himpleman. The Acle pair picked up five shots on the fourth end to lead 5-3 but after 10 ends the Reeve pair led 9-8. After 15 ends the Himpleman pair led 16-13. They still held the lead 19-16 after 18 ends and went on to win 20-18. Losing semi-finalists were Rose Yaxley and Janet Church from Freethorpe Bowls Club and Martham’s Monica Fisher and Elaine Donovan.
Wednesday
Men’s singles champion Mark Royal made a strong start to the defence of his title. The men’s singles, sponsored by Kingsley Healthcare, saw Royal of Rookery Bowls Club in Stowmarket, begin his defence against R Davis. Royal was always in control and won 21-11. In his next game Royal played Bob Allen from west Norfolk, winning in 14 ends, 21-5, to earn a clash with David Wilson from Nottingham.
Triple champion Phil Parsons, from York, lost his first match against Diddy Smith, from Freethorpe, 21-4 in a game lasting only 12 ends.
The other triple champion, Phil Emmerson from York, qualified. Past winner John Tufts of Norfolk Bowls Club won his two games 21-5 and 21-3. The Willgress family, also from Norfolk Bowls Club, brothers Wayne and Jake together with father Chris, all qualified.
