Great Yarmouth Town picked up a battling point from one of their longest away trips on the season on Tuesday night.

There were seven under-18s in the squad for the second consecutive game and again they all gave a very good account of themselves.

The game itself started out in a very competitive fashion, with both sides showing intent in front of 147 spectators at Catons Lane.

The home side took the lead inside 10 minutes when a well delivered corner was headed in. This however was somewhat of a kick-start for the travelling Bloaters and good chances for Haydn Davis and the lively Aaron Sanders gave some encouragement.

After the interval Yarmouth continued to search out a goal and limited the attacks from the home side,, with Connor Milligan largely untroubled, and on 70 minutes the deserved equaliser arrived. After some good passing around the edge of the box the ball fell to Davis who played a deft pass to Sanders and he found space in the penalty area to slot pass the advancing keeper.

Yarmouth continued on the front foot and it took an amazing double save from the Saffron keeper to deny firstly Sanders and then Hagen. Saffron however always looked a danger and as the Bloaters’ back line pushed up to close down a ball a pass back in behind them found a striker in acres of space, so much so there were load appeals for offside. It was not given and the newly introduced substitute slotted confidently passed Milligan.

The visitors at this point could have accepted defeat but the side showed great character to go on and find a much deserved equaliser. As space opened up after Lopez and Hagen pulled the Saffron defence about Davis found himself in a central area and hit a 25 yard low drive right into the bottom corner of the net. The Bloaters players celebrated together in front of a loyal group of travelling supporters to take their plaudits for a deserved point after a fine performance.

Afterwards joint manager Adam Mason had this to say: “It’s never easy travelling such a distance on a Tuesday night especially so late on in the season but the character our side showed tonight was a pleasure to watch. That’s our last away game of the longest campaign I’ve ever been involved with. We are quite road weary but now have two home games to look forward to in the hope we can finish the season off well.”
