Great Yarmouth Town have boosted their squad by signing young Polish forward Karol Wengizik from Dereham.

Karol, a 17-year-old who was recently on Norwich City’s books, has made three appearances for his country’s under-16 side.

As a DESA student, Karol has been part of the Dereham Town set-up this season but is looking for regular experience at a competitive level. After dialogue with DESA coaches it was thought Karol could get some great exposure and guidance with the Bloaters in the top flight of the Thurlow Nunn League.

The left footed forward/winger went straight into the squad for the game at Histon on Tuesday evening. He started on the bench on what was a tough night for the Bloaters as they crashed to a 5-1 defeat.

This Saturday the Bloaters will be hoping to get back to playing at home after consecutive postponements at the Wellesley, with the fixtures against Saffron Waldon and Wivenhoe both being called off due to a waterlogged pitches.

Tomorrow everyone will be hoping it will be third time lucky as FC Clacton make the trek for a 3pm kick-off.

For joint manager Adam Mason the postponements haven’t helped the momentum, which had seen the team go seven games unbeaten in the league before Tuesday, with four wins and three draws.

“Having gained such a great win (2-1) at league leaders Felixstowe we wanted to take that straight into the Saffron game. Now, having lost two games, we need to get the lads ready for a busy last few months of the season to secure another good league finish.”

The Bloaters, already behind on games after some good cup runs, face 18 games in the final 12 weeks of the season. The action continues on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) with a re-arranged trip to Fakenham. The Bloaters travelled to Clipbush Park earlier in the season only to let down by their opponents, whose players refused to play due to internal issues at the club which have now been resolved.
