Great Yarmouth Town had to settled for a point as Lady Luck deserted them at The Wellesley.

The home side welcomed back Haydn Davis and Chris Holmes to the squad after both missed last week’s trip to Clacton and youngster Miles Palmer was handed a start.

Within a minute the Bloaters were a goal up when some good play between Palmer, Sanders and Forbes resulted in a cross to Sean Perfect who fired in a shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.

The visitors’ best chance of the half came from a corner that saw a header go close and then Whatmough saved well when the ball was fired back into the box, before needing treatment after a heavy contact.

The visitors’ plight was worsened when a poor challenge by Day on Bartram saw him given his marching orders by referee Adie Sannerude.

With Whatmough’s injury proving worse than anticipated, the home side were forced into a change at half-time as skipper Andersen took the gloves to replace the big keeper.

The game sprang into life midway through the second half as Lewis rampaged into the area and forced keeper Moyes into a fine save. From the corner Forbes blazed over and seconds later Davis lifted the ball over the full-back and Mitch Forbes raced through and finished well to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later the visitors had a goal back when the ball hit Davis on the arm in the penalty area and referee Sannerude awarded a penalty that was duly dispatched by Will Wingfield. Another two minutes later and the visitors were level as a long ball found Hassan Ally in behind the defence and he finished well past Andersen. The home side, already rattled by the penalty award, were now distraught as it appeared that Ally was offside when the ball was played into him.

With the clock ticking round to the 90 minute mark a ferocious free-kick by Chris Holmes finally beat Moyes but it cannoned back of the underside of the bar and the ensuing scramble for the ball was eventually cleared by the Melford defence.
