Great Yarmouth Road Runners in action from Holt to Venice!

Great Yarmouth Road Runners were well represented in the Holt 10k race organised by North Norfolk Beach Runners at the weekend.
The 362 runners who completed the course had a few undulations to contend with, along with cold and windy conditions.
Despite that four of the 18 GYRR competitors managed to record personal bests, namely Paul Reeve, Gemma Aylen, Fiona Williams and Katherine Audus.
Credit is also due to Marc Evans who managed 12th place overall in a time of 37.46.
This race was also a decider for the Leathes Prior Grand Prix series and with several GYRRs battling it out for a top three finish over the 10-race series it made for an exciting race, none more so than in the ladies’ 55-59 age category where two team-mates went head-to-head.
Pauline Leeves and Lorrain Dawson were battling it out for the top spot and Pauline triumphed in the end with the bonus of winning her age group trophy at the weekend too.
Steve Stringer likes to compete in other sporting challenges such as triathlons and half ironman competitions but he made a great comeback to pure running to finish strongly in 52.57.
GYRR results: Marc Evans 37.46, James Carass 41.26, Mark Stone 43.38, Paul Reeve 44.31 (pb), Terry Hubbard 46.00, Penny Studley 46.39, Pauline Leeves 49.14, Emma Dawson 50.44, Julie Webster 51.22, Rob Bailey 51.34, Lorrain Dawson 51.36, Steve Stringer 52.57, Ivan Lees 54.02, Gemma Aylen 54.16 (pb), John Bound 56.05, Fiona Williams 58.43 (pb), James Brown 1.04.51 and Katherine Audus 1.06.43. Nine club members ventured further afield to compete in the Venice 10k. The course took them from San Giuliano Park outside of Venice, along the 4km causeway into the city itself and then over a specially built pontoon bridge on the Gran Canal.
The race was advertised as a 10k but everyone who ran it recorded a distance of just below 11k, which is reflected in the completion times. Judith Nickerson completed her first competitive 10k run and an international one at that!
Runners’ chip times: Ian Tooley 51.05, Nicola Baker 51.10, James Chaplin-Madden 52.49, Kerstin Langer 55.33, Andreas Brodbeck 55.55, Emma Dawson 58.17, Lorrain Dawson 58.18, Cathy Tooley 1-12.12, Judith Nickerson 1-12.12.
