A total of 733 runners completed the Snetterton Half marathon around the racing circuit at the weekend, eight of them representing Great Yarmouth Road Runners.

It was a gloriously sunny day but temperatures were kept seasonally low. With little wind it made for ideal racing conditions.

This was particularly welcomed by new members Anna Spackman and Stephanie Deeks, who were completing their very first half marathons.

They ran together, providing each other with support.

The ladies trained for the recent Great Yarmouth 10k, so to make that step up to half marathon so quickly was very admirable and shows what is possible with hard work.

The course was held on the iconic racing track, but fortunately it was traffic-free! The course was flat, with the exception of a steep bridge that the runners had to negotiate three times, with six inclines to endure.

After an enthusiastic warm-up, led by the organisers Inspire Races, the runners started their first of three laps.

Each lap, comprising of 7km, provided enough variety to maintain interest. Music was pumping out of the loud speakers that could be heard on most sections of the course and there were also a handful of bands/ and singers doing their best to keep motivation levels high.

Spectators were dotted around the course and some were in the grandstand, which the runners passed three times.

The course turned back on itself in places, which was ideal for the runners to cheer on their club mates passing in the opposite direction.

As always members of Great Yarmouth Road Runners gave a great account of themselves with no fewer than three personal bests being recorded.

James Carass was delighted to lead the team home with a new personal best of 1:30.16. Matt Buckoke also got a PB, knocking over three minutes off his previous best.

Completing the trio of best times was Andrew Thomas, who managed to achieve his sub 1.45 target.

The full results for GYRR were: James Carass 1:30.16 PB, Matt Buckoke 1:33.07 PB, Penny Studley 1:37.14, Mark Stone 1:39.39, Andrew Thomas 1:44.01 PB, Jane Trudgill 1:51.17, Anna Spackman 2:37.38 (first HM), Stephanie Deeks 2:37.38 (first HM).
