Great Yarmouth swimmers bring back big haul of medals from county gala

A team of 16 swimmers from Great Yarmouth Swimming Club travelled to Thetford to take part in the County Challenge gala and came with away with plenty of medals.

For the boys, there were an impressive 16 top three placings, including Tom Barnes, who took bronze in the 200m breaststroke, and Jack Tate, who took silver in 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke along with bronze in the 50m backstroke.

Benjamin Bedford had a successful weekend with a gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver in 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke and bronze in 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle while Nathan Pitman took a good silver in the 100m freestyle.

Charlie Shearing had a positive weekend, coming away with two excellent personal bests in the 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle. Raul Hasmasan continued to show improvement by winning four golds (200m freestyle, 200m IM, 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle) along with a bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Ryan Webb had a positive gala despite competing in a tough age category of 16 and over. He smashed both his 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle personal best times, clocking up a 27.88 and 1.01.26 respectively. He also took a strong silver in the 50m backstroke and a bronze in the 100m backstroke.

The girls took 21 top three placings. Skye Nichols claimed a speedy gold in 100m backstroke, silver in 100m IM and bronze in 200m backstroke. Bethany Gordon took an impressive two golds for 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle along with silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke. Jasmine Coleman continued to show her talent with gold in the 100m butterfly and silver in 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle and Zoe Land swam confidently to take a good bronze in 50m backstroke. Mollie Medler and Lucy Gordon swam strongly throughout, setting strong new personal best times. Melissa Duffield swam a great 200m backstroke to take bronze, just behind Anna Pearce who took the gold in the same race, along with gold in 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 100m butterfly and bronze in 100m freestyle.
