The largest, and most successful, gala that Great Yarmouth Swimming Club host is the level three licensed open meet — The Winter Wipeout, at the UEA Sportspark, Norwich.

This open meet boasts a comprehensive programme of events and had, like last year, reached full capacity in entries with a total of 14 clubs from East Anglia attending over.

Great Yarmouth took a team of 43 to the event this year — a significant increase on last year. and 21 achieved top three placess.

Head coach Liam Harvey, junior lead coach Rhianna James and coach Sue Lyons were pleased with the progress that was displayed.

Sam Coman (11) swam an excellent 200m butterfly, a gruelling event, and came away with gold. He also won three silvers and a bronze. Jacob Zandbergen (13) has come back from injury stronger and more determined than ever - his time of 28.86 for the 50m freestyle was outstanding and it shows the standard of the competition that it was only good enough for silver. Jacob also won golds in 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle along with three other silvers and two bronze medals.

Tommy Chandler (15) has rediscovered great form and has been smashing his personal best. He took seven seconds off his 400m free time with a determined swim that won him gold ahead of team mate Harry Crisp. He also broke the one minute barrier for 100 freestyle for the first time, finishing in 59.67. He took golds in 50m, 100, and 200m breaststroke, dominating his age group for that stroke and also in 200m individual medley.

Raul Hasmasan (14) has worked hard in training to improve and it paid off. Over a busy weekend’s swimming he achieved gold in 100m breaststroke along with two silvers and four bronzes.

He would also have earned a gold medal for the most consistent cheering of his team-mates had they been awarded.

Finley Coman was only able to compete on one day out of the two, but impressively still managed to win golds in 100m breaststroke, 100m IM and a silver in 400m freestyle.

Other medals winners for the boys were: Jack Tate (11) two bronze, Harvey Larner (11) two silver and one bronze, Nathan Pitman (13) one silver, Harry Crisp (23) four silvers and one bronze and Ryan Webb (16) one silver and one bronze.
