Great Yarmouth Town will be attempting to reach the first qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow when they make the short journey to Wroxham.

The Bloaters had an excellent extra-preliminary round win when they defeated Huntingdon Town at The Wellesley on August 16.

The 1-0 victory, courtesy of a second-half Mitch Forbes goal against a team that play one level higher, was well deserved and set up the even tougher task of a visit to Wroxham, who play their football in Division One North of the Ryman League and are managed by former Gorleston boss Stuart Larter.

Bloaters’ manager Ricci Butler said: “Although we were given a tough draw we are excited to still be in the competition.

“Huntingdon were a good side but we were the better team on the day and won through.

“Wroxham, we know, are a very good footballing side and we will respect that, but we will go there and work hard and try our best to come away with a result.

“We will need to match them in commitment and work rate and believe in ourselves from the first kick of the ball to the last. Because of the gulf dividing the leagues we play in we will be the underdogs but leagues and form go out of the window on FA Cup day. It’s all down to 90 minutes and this Great Yarmouth Town side will compete for 90 minutes.”

Assuming there is no replay the the Bloaters will be at home against league new boys King’s Lynn Town Reserves on Tuesday evening. They are at home again on Saturday week against Braintree Reserves.

The new Academy side are away at Prostar Windows on Saturday week while the Veterans play One Love United at home on Sunday, 31st in a 2pm kick-off and the under-18s are at home on Wednesday against Norwich United.

Meanwhile Gorleston, who suffered their first league defeat of the season in midweek, have strengthened their squad with two new signings.

Defender Scott Manning, who was at Kirkley and Pakefield last season having previously been at Lowestoft, signed before the midweek loss against Fakenham.

The Greens have also signed 18-year-old Reece Edwards-King from Lowestoft on a two-month loan. King signed a two-year contract with Lowestoft in the summer with a view to them sending him out on loan for experience, and Gorleston have become the first to offer the defender that chance.

The Greens have two tough games to look forward to this week.Tomorrow they make the trek to play Stanway Rovers and then, on Tuesday night, Norwich United – who have won all four of their league games so far – visit Emerald Park.
