Great Yarmouth Town let a two goal slead slip through their grasp as they were held to a frustrating draw at The Wellesley.

In filthy conditions on a heavy pitch, the unchanged Bloaters took a fourth minute lead when Forbes’ goalbound shot was pushed away by Greenhall into the path of Aaron Sanders who fired home from close range.

The young striker struggled to contain his delight as he signalled the end of a personal goal drought that stretched back to November.

The home side had their tails up and were creating chances. Sanders was set free with just the keeper to beat but the young custodian did well to parry his chipped effort.

It was no real surprise when the Bloaters extended their lead in the 40th minute, Lewis found Forbes on the right and his perfectly-weighted pass picked out Chris Holmes outpacing the defence and finishing well to make it 2-0. A couple of minutes later an excellent move involving Lewis and Holmes found Davis in the penalty area and his effort was only narrowly wide.

The visitors pulled a goal back less than a minute into the second period. A long ball found the Borough right winger in acres of space and he ran on and finished past Whatmough to give the visitors a lifeline. The home side were incensed as they thought the winger was offside but the assistant saw it differently.

Four minutes later the game was level when Weaver, after a couple of blocked attempts, turned the ball into the net to make it 2-2.

The visitors now had something to cling on to and their defence remained defiant as the home side struggled to make any impact.

Sam Whiting was introduced for his home debut and Charlie Bartram joined the action as the home side seemed to have lost their way.

Within a minute Whiting thought he had scored when he bundled the ball home from a Davis free-kick but the celebrations were interrupted by the assistant’s flag, presumably for a foul.

With the clock ticking past the 90 minute mark, some excellent play involving Howell, Bartram and Hagan created an opening for Davis but the Bloaters winger fired his shot over.

Team: Whatmough, Howell, Andersen, Eagleton, Ager, Urry, Sanders, Lewis, Forbes, Holmes, Davis. Subs: Hagan, Whiting, Bartram, Lonergan, Gallant.
