The Bloaters came into this game having won only one of the last five games at The Wellesley - and the poor run continued as the visitors scored the only goal.

They were without Whatmough, Perfect, Roots, Savage and Ager was named on the bench still recovering from injury. Young goalkeeper Connor Milligan took his place between the sticks.

The early exchanges were tentative as the tricky Wellesley surface demanded full concentration. The visitors were first to show when Milligan saved a shot from Spriggs. Forbes and Lewis then combined to fashion a chance for Chris Holmes, but defenders crowded out the experienced striker.

Neither side could muster a real attempt on goal until the 20th minute. Holmes retained possession well to find Andersen who lofted a far post cross to Forbes whose volley from an acute angle was tipped over by Alex Archer. The home side then began to find their passes and Sanders fired in a shot after a powerful run by Haydn Davis.

However, the brief spell of joy for the home side was short-lived as the Jockeys opened the scoring. A cross found Jordan Lambert all alone in the six yard box and although Milligan made a great save the ball rebounded kindly for the Jockeys’ centre back and he smashed the ball home.

Milligan was forced into action again as he had to make a good save from Spriggs’ powerful drive. The second half began with the Jockeys creating a chance as a ball in from the right found Spriggs in space and his volley on the turn was fired straight at Milligan.

The Bloaters finally created a couple of chances as first Forbes latched onto a pass to beat the offside trap but Archer forced him wide and the cross was eventually cleared. A minute later, some excellent play between Andersen and Sanders saw the ball played into Forbes but this time Archer was out sharply to deny the Bloaters’ striker.

The Jockeys nearly scored again as another dangerous corner was headed narrowly wide by Swinton.

A Sanders’ corner was scrambled away as the home side pressed for an equaliser. Andersen later found Hagan with a pass but again Archer made the save.
