GORLESTON return to Ridgeons League First Division action tomorrow, with a trip to

mid-table Thetford Town, kick off 3pm.

The Greens can take heart from a sterling performance against Wroxham in the FA Vase, taking the Yachtsmen to a replay before losing Tuesday night's replay at Trafford Park 3-0.

Gorleston Reserves take on Woodbridge Reserves at Emerald Park, kick-off 3pm.

Wroxham 3, Gorleston 0

WROXHAM finally showed their Ridgeons Premier class to end the Greens' Wembley dream for another season in Tuesday night's FA Vase replay.

The Yachtsmen made three changes from the side that struggled at Emerald Park while Gorleston stuck with the team that shook Wroxham on Saturday in a goalless draw.

However, on this occasion the Greens could be accused of showing too much respect for their opponents as they allowed them too much time and space in which to play.

After just three minutes Gary Gilmore fired over from six yards, unmarked in front of goal as Wroxham applied early pressure.

Ten minutes later a cross from the left was turned in by Ollie King to give Wroxham the lead.

Gorleston responded well and immediately Neil Hurren hit a firm shot straight at the keeper, Peter Lambert hitting the follow-up wide.

Wroxham were passing the ball quickly and simply whilst the Greens favoured a more direct approach which was not having much effect against experienced defenders.

After 33 minutes a quick free-kick caught out the Gorleston defence, but Elliot Pride was alive to the danger and blocked Gilmore's effort.

This was only a temporary reprieve - two minutes later Steve Taylor appeared to be fouled in the middle of the park, but the ref waved play on. The ball was played through to King who was allowed to race in on goal, despite looking two yards offside. Pride again saved well, but King picked up the loose ball and turned it back into the box for Owen Paynter to head in.

The Greens lost their shape in the second half as they tried in vain to get back into the game. They couldn't get their passing game working.

After 61 minutes a mix-up at the back led to a scramble and Paynter scored his second to quash any hopes Gorleston may have had of recovery.

Stand-in manager Alan Smith made changes, but the visitors still failed to trouble the Wroxham keeper and the Yachtsmen had further good chances.

The final five minutes saw Gorleston finally put some passing moves together and Gary Todd hit a good shot over, but that was as close as they got.

The Greens can take heart from the fact they pushed their illustrious opponents all the way and forced them to up their game in the replay. That sort of performance bodes well for the remainder of the league season.
