Cornard United 1, Gorleston 4

THE Greens ended their season by securing a league double with an identical score to that on Easter Monday.

Gorleston were without Kyle

Howell injured midweek, Pete Lambert, Leon Harewood and Adam Thurtle. Ross Goodwin and Sam Jones came into the line-up at right-back and left-midfield respectively while Ian Holmes a promising U18 youth team striker was on the bench, writes Mick Heard.

Cornard, who have finished in midtable, adopted a 3-5-2 formation which Gorleston began to exploit on the flanks and they took a 20th-minute lead. John Bell made a penetrating 40-yard run which was finished off by Lee Hunter.

On 30 minutes Ricci Butler crashed home the second goal after a one-two with Hunter, hiss 13th goal from the wing this season.

Keeper Elliott Pride was in assured form and the defence were very sound generally. Sam Jones was injured during the first half and Ian Holmes came on and looks a fine product.

Four minutes into the second half a fine Gorleston move involving Steve Taylor and Butler led to striker Kevin Howes beating the Cornard centre half and firing home goal No 3. Luke Goreham was involved in Gorleston's fourth goal which was scored by supporters' player of the season Hunter. Since signing from Kirkley he has scored 31 league goals, and 35 including cup games.

Phil Kelly scored a consolation goal for Cornard with a tremendous strike. Regan Harman and Martin Sinclair came on in the second period.

Team: E Pride, R Goodwin, B Manning, E Thompson, L Goreham, R Butler, S Taylor, J Bell, S Jones, L Hunter, K Howes. Subs: R Harman, I Holmes, N Sinclair.

Sinclair and Jon White, who have done a fine job this season, were appreciative of the excellent hospitality from manager Chris Symes and the Cornard club. They expressed thanks to Kevin and Darren Webb for their help on match days with the kit and driving the coach and to Mick Wright and John Mann on the training side. Thanks went to Gorleston supporters for their efforts over the season.

The presentation evening is on Friday, May 15 in the clubhouse, Emerald Park, Gorleston. Sammy Morgan will be presenting the awards. Start time 7.30pm, all supporters are welcome.

On Saturday Gary 'Goose' Ingram announced he was retiring. He will still be available for emergency call-ups but feels he owes it to his wife and children to spend more time with them. A heartfelt 'thank you' went to him from all the Greens' supporters.
