Gorleston 0, FC Clacton 2

PRIOR to Tuesday's match Lee Hunter was presented with the Greens' Supporters' Player of the Year Trophy and Scott Butler was also presented with the Supporters' Reserve Player of the Year award.

A presentation was also made to Linda Johnson for her sterling work in charge of the canteen for the last

25 years.

The match underlined the unpredictability of football.

A few weeks ago FC Clacton looked certain to clinch a promotion place into the Ridgeons Premier, only to suffer a surprising drop in form. At Emerald Park they looked a formidable side once more. They started at an amazing pace. Gorleston for a time were stunned.

Gorleston were without Pete Lambert (at university) and Leon Harewood and Steve Taylor (injured).

Taylor was on the bench with Ricci Butler. To add to this Kyle Howell, who has been in great form of late, had to be substituted through injury during the first half with Ricci Butler coming on to replace him.

Danny Burkle and Regan Harman also started the match, Burkle only recently returning to the reserve team after a long absence through injury.

On nine minutes Kevin Coyle put Clacton ahead with a well-taken goal following a break on the right by Andy Gibbon. Clacton made it 2-0 with a tremendous volley by James Dunkley.

Lee Hunter, playing wide on the right, sent a fine cross into the area which Kevin Howes headed wide.

In the second period Gorleston had much more possession and put some fine passing moves together, but the Clacton defence dealt well with them.

Luke Goreham had an excellent match at left back. Robbie Oldham battled well in central midfield.

This has been a disappointing end of the season for Gorleston as they have lost their last two home games, admittedly against good opposition.

Halstead and Debenham LC are now fighting for the third promotion spot. Gorleston and Great Yarmouth will miss out but are both finishing in good positions.

Tomorrow, Gorleston's final game is away to Cornard United (kick-off 3pm). Gorleston Reserves entertain Woodbridge Reserves at Emerald Park (kick-off 3pm). All support very welcome.

The club thanks supporters for getting behind the teams. David Gall has presented Kyle Howell with his man-of-the-match trophy against Great Yarmouth and he has also presented Eddie Thompson with his player-of-the-month trophy for April.
