This match between two of the promotion-chasing sides was a very close affair with both teams happy with a point.

Gorleston were missing right-back Kyle Howell, away on holiday, and new signing Tom Daniels came into the team. Gary Ingram was also absent on a coaching course. Another new signing Paul Hunter was on the bench. Ricci Butler and Luke Goreham returned after suspension, writes Mick Heard.

Debenham LC have been in impressive form of late and have beaten promotion favourites Newmarket Town 2-0 in this run.

They also paraded their twin strikeforce of Stuart Jopling and Ian Gedny. Jopling and Gorleston's Lee Hunter are both among the top three in the leading goalscorers list in Ridgeons Division One.

Defences were on top for most of the first period in which few chances were created and the Gorleston centre-backs, skipper Eddie Thompson and Leon Harewood kept Jopling and Gedny under control.

Debenham keeper Louis Johnson made a superb save from Lee Hunter towards the end of the first half as he stretched to turn the striker's shot over the bar.

In an action-packed second half Jopling saw his header saved by Gorleston keeper Tom Marsden while at the other end Johnson parried a vicious drive from Hunter.

The Hornets' best move saw left-half Paddy Turley fire across the goal and then their left-back Jon Ince denied Gorleston the lead with a superb tackle on Gorleston striker Peter Lambert after Johnson had pushed away Ricci Butler's shot.

The busy Debenham keeper also rushed from his goal to save at the feet of Hunter after the Gorleston striker had raced through.

Kevin Howes came on as a substitute, quite an experienced striker, formerly with Yarmouth and Kirkley.

Debenham substitute James Heathcote flashed a shot wide in their last attack of the game but right at the end Johnson produced the save of the match.

John Bell released Steve Taylor who drove the ball low and hard to the keeper's right. And as the Gorleston fans were about to celebrate the winning goal Johnson reacted brilliantly with a fantastic stop.

Gorleston's gate was the second highest in division and could have been higher had Norwich City not been at home.

The club would like to thank all their supporters and hope they keep coming for what is likely to to be a very busy end to the season
