GORLESTON begin their Ridgeons League Division One campaign tomorrow at Cornard United and play their first home game on Tuesday night against Fakenham Town, kick-off 7.45.

Gorleston 4, Woodbridge Athletic 2

WOODBRIDGE may have been late arriving but it didn't take them long to get started in this pre-season friendly.

For anybody looking for clues as to Richard Daniels' starting line up for the first league game at Cornard tomorrow, Elliot Pride was in goal, the back four were Harley Clements, Tom Daniels, Eddie Thompson and Adam Thurtle. Across the middle was Gavin Williams, Robbie Oldham, Matty Taunton, Luke Catchpole and Scott Woodcock with Mitch Forbes up in the front rank.

With the Greens' defence still sorting themselves out from kick-off, Woodbridge took the lead and it took Gorleston a while before they found their feet.

Tom Daniels produced the equaliser with a thumping right-foot drive from 20 yards after 26 minutes and, seven minutes later, it was Daniels again. An excellent jinking run took him past several defenders before he slotted the ball left-footed into the far corner of the goal.

Unfortunately, Daniels undid his good work with a miscued clearance just before half-time which presented Woodbridge with an equaliser.

Half-time saw Danny Mitchell, Kyle Howell and Chris Sandford replace Forbes, Clements and Oldham, and within five minutes of the restart Sandford linked up with Williams on the left to work a cross to the far post where Woodcock was waiting to blast the ball into the goal.

Gorleston were playing some nice football with, at times, some excellent one-touch play which, once the season gets going and they have a settled line up, can only get better.

Liam Bartley replaced Catchpole and Elliot Hannant came on for Woodcock, and it was Hannant's defence-splitting pass that put Sandford in to complete the scoring with just eight minutes left.

Originally Woodbridge were providing opposition for a second game with the Reserves but were unable to, so it was left to Waveney FC to step in as they had been reasonably successfully at the previous week's Sailor Brown Trophy.

They proved a more than capable side but Gorleston just had the edge with Annis Nialli superb in goal.

An excellent 25-yard Scott Butler free-kick opened the scoring after eight minutes and, six minutes later, Joe Lee scored from a tight angle to complete a 2-0 win.
