Cornard 0 Gorleston 2

WITH manager Richard Daniels confined to the stand, Gorleston began on the back foot, writes David Hardy.

However, the Greens soon began to get a foothold with a John Bell shot after eight minutes which the keeper punched away, before Gary Williams shot wide.

Steve Taylor fired straight at the keeper then, at the other end, Sam Holman dragged a shot wide of Elliot Pride's post.

Eddie Thompson had the ball in the net after 25 minutes, but the linesman had his flag up. Pride was out to save from Jamie Clark and then denied Holman, who blazed the follow up over.

Mitch Forbes burst through on the right and pulled back an excellent cross which Taylor, coming in at the far post, was just unable to get a proper connection to with his head.

Thomas Daniels had a long-range effort held by the keeper as Gorleston ended the half well.

The home team also started the second on the attack, but the Greens took control in the 52nd minute.

A through-ball sent Forbes in on goal and he kept his cool to slot the past the keeper.

Gorleston were knocking the ball around well. Reece Hunn had the next chance, bursting into the box, but he shot over.

At the other end Dan Stokes rounded Pride but could not get a shot away. Moments later Adam Thurtle was forced to clear off the line as Cornard began to look dangerous.

A good Gorleston move ended with Bell attempting to side-foot the ball into the bottom corner, but keeper Colin Athey stretched to turn it

past the post. Athey then denied Forbes, with Taylor just unable to reach the rebound.

Six minutes from time the Greens made the game safe. An in-swinging corner from the right by Reece Hunn eluded everybody and bent into the goal at the near post.

Three minutes later great play by Taylor set up Bell for a thumping long-range shot. Athey got down well to pull off an excellent save, palming the ball up and over his bar. Buoyed by that effort, Bell tried again from the corner, but this time the referee got in the way, catching it full in the face.

Substitute Neil Hurren burst through and went down under pressure just as he was about

to shoot.

Team: Elliot Pride, Sean Blowers (Kyle Howell 79), Thomas Daniels, Aaron Bowers (Callum Webb 73), Adam Thurtle, Eddie Thompson, Gary Williams, John Bell, Mitch Forbes (Neil Hurren 88), Steve Taylor, Reece Hunn.
