Gorleston are back among the big boys after securing promotion from the Ridgeons First Division on Saturday.

An 84th-minute goal from Gary Williams was enough to secure a 1-0 win at promotion rivals Cambridge University Press and ensure the four-time ECL champions will play in the top flight again after a six-year absence.

The Greens will now be targeting a trophy double, having already lifted the First Division KO Cup – although Diss Town will be right on their tails after coming within a win of joining them in the Ridgeons Premier Division next season.

Greens’ boss Richard Daniels, indeed, will now be rooting for the Tangerines to make it a Norfolk promotion double, saying: “I’ve said all along that if we go up I’d like to see Robert Taylor and Diss go up with us.

“Rob knows they’ve got our full backing and hopefully next year Thetford will join us, because they’ve been also been very good and the more Norfolk clubs in the Premier the better.”

Daniels added: “I’ve been the lucky one, along with Mike Derbyshire and my management committee.

“But over the years so many people have put a lot of effort into achieving this aim, and all of them, previous managers included, have played their part.”
