CANARIES boss Bryan Gunn has called for unity among supporters as Norwich City prepare for life in League One.

The controversy over season ticket rebates has further divided fans already split over the appointment of Gunn as manager following his failure to keep the club in the Championship.

But Gunn says it's time to call a truce.

His comments come as the Norwich City Independent Supporters' Association (NCISA) reaffirmed their opposition to the rebate scheme in the wake of director Michael Foulger's promise to match pound for pound any money not claimed by season ticket holders.

“This is a big gesture from one of our directors and I have read it's a PR exercise, which is disappointing,” said Gunn, who, because of boardroom changes is still working without a fixed budget for the new campaign.

“Obviously certain people or groups have made their stand, but at the same time I hope that the reaction from the masses will be more positive than that.

“It would be an expensive PR exercise for Michael Foulger if we are to receive substantial rebates coming back to the club which would benefit the playing budget for next season.

“The message is that the fans' help will be crucial, and that's something that hopefully they will understand.

“From the season ticket holders I have spoken to it's a positive response and we just need to make sure the right message is out there.

“We are not going to stop people making their own observations on it, that is completely down to the likes of John Tilson (NCISA chairman) and NCISA if that's what they want to do.

“But hopefully the supporters out there will realise it is going to play a big part in the playing side of things for next season. I do hope it's an expensive PR exercise for Michael Foulger because that means the fans have backed it as well.

“This is how it is at the moment. The board are working hard behind the scenes on their decisions and appointments that they have to make, just like I am working very hard with my staff and people at the training ground to try and get our side of it right.

“It needs the backing of the fans and that's going to be crucial.

“We are where we are now and we have got to adapt to it - we need any advantage we can get during the close season with season ticket sales - which have been fantastic, and people are buying new season tickets as we speak which is great.

“The rebate situation will only enhance that as well.

“For obstacles to be put in the way - I am finding it very difficult to swallow that.

“At the same time they have their right of what they want to do as well. Let's hope the majority of the fans will get behind the club, get behind myself and we can get a squad on the pitch that will compete in a very tough league.
