GYDAC girls join Norfolk bid for national honours

Five members of the club represented Norfolk in the National Sportshall Athletic Championships at the NEC in Birmingham.
The teams have to win the regional championships to gain a place in the final. Norfolk had three teams through to the final where they competed against 11 other regions.
Amy Dowsett was selected as captain of 12-strong U13 girls team. Yarmouth had four in this team: Amy Dowsett, Chloe Long, Natoya Rimmer, and Jasmin Kemp.
Natoya was involved in an enthralling high jump where she finished 3rd, with a new pb of 1.51m, out of 24 competitors. In the four-lap race she finished 2nd. Jasmin produced a pb of 10.23m to take the silver in the shot. Amy had a great speed bounce with a total of 84 for 4th place, and was 6th in the six-lap race. Amy and Natoya teamed up for the six-lap Parlauf putting in a great effort finishing in 5th. Chloe Long one of the younger members of the team with another year in this age group had an 18th place in the standing triple jump, and 24th in the six-lap race. The team finished 2nd place behind Hampshire for an excellent result. In the under 15 girls event Phoebe Baker was the only representative from Yarmouth . Competing in the four-lap race she finished 9th, in the speed bounce 17th with 77 / 28th in VJ with 50cm. The Norfolk team finished 8th.
On Sunday GYDA travelled to Norwich in the Anglian League which has 18 clubs with the top eight in each age group competing in the final. The U15 girls age group were expected to do reasonably well. Amy Dowsett started the ball rolling by winning the hammer (17.58m), a 2nd in the 800m (2:38.9) and a 2nd in the 75m (13.4). Natoya Rimmer added a 1st in the high jump (1.50m) and two 2nd places in the 100/200m A races in 13.3/28.5 both athletes having moved up in age this season. Emily Anderson had a hatrick of wins in the B 200m (28.9), Dis A event (20.30m) and the LJ B event (4.27m). Rhiannan Clarke threw 24.98m to win the javelin, jumped 4.44m for 2nd in the LJ, and ran 13.2 for 3rd place in the Hurdles. Ellie Wakeley won the Dis B with 17.56m and ran 51.5 to win the 300m B race. Jasmin Kemp won the shot (8.65m) and finished 3rd in the B high jump (1.10m). Erin Irwin finished 3rd in the 1500m A race. Kate canham added two 3rd place finishes in the 100mB (14.9) and the 300mA (49.6). With a 2nd place in the relay (56.0). they pulled off the surprise victory of the day beating Chelmsford by 2 points, with Norwich 3rd.
The U17 boys did not disappoint, Dominic Oliver ran a great 1500m winning in 4:28.6, a 10.69m jump to win the triple jump and 4.84m to win the B event long jump. Tom Burgess ran a mature race in the 400m winning in 53.7 pb, a 2nd in the 200m (24.6) and a first in the high jump B (1.50m). Jordi List, competing in the league for the first time had two wins in the HJ/LJ, 1.50m/4.89m followed up with a 2nd in the 100m B race (13.1). Kyle Ella ran a well controlled 800m to win in 2:11.7 and had a 3rd in the discus (14.07m). Mark Phillipson had two 2nds in the 100/200m races with times of 12.7/26.1 and a 2nd in the shot (7.89m). Keelan Pywell won the 1500m B race (4:47.0) and the B triple jump (7.42m). Josh Clark won the 800m B race in 2:18.3 and was 2nd in the javelin (27.35m). This gave them the start they wanted with a great first place beating Norwich by a considerable margin into 2nd place.
The U13 girls won the league last year. With half the team moved up in age it was a chance for the newcomers to show what they could do. Flora Dell came home first in the 1500m (5:46.7) with Daisy Spurway winning the B race (5:55.0). Alice Wakeley won the discus (13.19m) and added a 3rd in the javelin (11.60m). Casey Cork running the 100/200m had two 3rd places with times of 14.7/31.1 and had a 2nd in the B long jump (3.44m). Georgia Clarke just missed out on first in the hurdles taking 2nd in 14.2, Hannah Clark in the B race finished 2nd in 17.1. Chloe Long in the 200m B race finished 2nd (30.3) and was 3rd in the long jump with 3.88m. Catherine Long finished 3rd in the B race 100m in 16.2. The relay team finished 2nd (61.5). This gave the team a 2nd place behind Norwich.
In the U13 boys event Conner Dobson won the 200m (29.1) and added a 1st in the long jump with 4.28m. Jake Bailey had three 2nd places in 100m/200m/LJ B events with 15.1/31.8/3.77m. In the 800m Kallum Martin finished 3rd in the A race in 2:56.0 and Kai Beadle was 2nd in the B race (2:59.7). Kallum’s best performance was in the javelin with a winning throw of 25.09m. Billy Randell had a 2nd in the shot with 4.40m. The team finished 2nd.
The inter /senior ladies competition covers the U17/U20 and Sen ladies in one competition. Polly Davies won all her four events – 100m/200mB race/400m and LJ with performances of 13.1/26.9/1:00.3/4.55m. Katy Barber won the 100m B race (13.1s) and was 2nd in the 200m A race (27.8). Holly Andrews finished 3rd in the 800m in 2:37.3. Louisa Marshall had three 3rd places in the shot (6.70m), discs (19.02m) and the hammer (19.37m). Third places went to Amber Burton shot (4.98m), Lauren Peach Dis (12.90m) and Ellie Simpson LJ(2.62m). The relay team put in a great performance to win in 54.5. The team finished 3rd.
The Senior/Junior men’s age group includes U20 and Senior athletes. Richard Taylor put on a fine display winning the 100m/200m in 11.4/22.3. Jordan Sears ran 12.2 to win the 100m B race and Shane Atherton won the 200m B race in 24.1. Ben Johnson added a 2nd place in the 400m in 54.9 and a 1st in the triple jump (10.05m). Kevin Pywell stuck to his task despite a downpour throughout his 3000m to finish 2nd in 12:15.9. Richard Taylor and Mark Turner had two 1sts in the javelin with 32.69m/32.49m, Craige Bean finished 3rd in the shot (7.69m) and John Pamplin was 3rd in the 800m. The team finished 2nd.
In the U15 boys section it was disappointing only having one athlete available to compete but Dominic Burnham’s wins in the 100/200m were excellent with times of 12.2 and 24.2. Norwich won 688, 2nd Gt Yarmouth 505, 3rd Chelmsford 444, 4th Breckland 160, 5th Diss 143 & 6th Ryston 17.
