GREAT Yarmouth’s unbeaten start to the Norfolk League Division One season continued with a hard-fought six-wicket win over third-placed Old Catton.

Old Catton started cautiously with only two of the opening 16 overs going for more than two runs. Ellis conceded just seven runs from his first eight overs, claiming both openers.

Prime and G Fossey enjoyed a 76-run partnership for the third wicket. With boundaries hard to come by, they turned the pressure onto the fielders with some excellent running aand took the score past 100.

With wickets in hand, Old Catton started playing their shots in the final 10 overs and inevitably wickets started to fall.

Johnston (1-26) forced the breakthrough when Fossey (37) holed out and then Oxborough (1-35) struck immediately to bowl Patel (0). Loone (19) added good support for Prime with a rapid 34-run partnership before the returning Vickers (1-41) removed him.

Ellis (3-42) returned and also struck quickly when he bowled Prime (58).

Smith (18no) and W Fossey (19no) in the last two overs added 31 for 191-6.

Facing their first big chase of the season Yarmouth started badly with Sole (1) falling in the second over.

The in-form Steven Hak took the game over with seemingly effortless stroke play. His first 30 runs came in boundaries and he reached his half-century with the team score only 66.

Fitzsimmons (8) gave good support before Derry helped add 89 for the third wicket. Hak looked odds on for his second successive century against Catton before he ran himself out for 88.

Derry fell four short of his half-century but Ruddick (26no) and Hodds (10no) guided Yarmouth home.
